A little over a year since the marriage ref was passed and signed into law intolerance rears it's ugly head again.

Folks it's this simple, this republic grants religious and and civil liberty, and where these two clash the law steps in. The law is quiet clear on this

There's controversy in Athy regarding a gay couple who have stepped down from the local St. Michael's Catholic parish church music activities.

Jacinta O'Donnell and Geraldine Flanagan, who married in July, have stepped down from the church choir and other church music activities, due to what they say is the level of pressure placed upon them and the church by a local church activist Anthony Murphy.

Mr. Murphy is strongly opposed to gay people being active in the Catholic church in what he calls leadership roles.

Mr. Murphy has also conveyed his views to parish priest Canon Frank McEvoy, who the couple says has been supportive of them.

Why would anyone who was gay, a parent, a woman, or ever a child ever want anything in the slightest to do with the RCC anyway?

It was their decision to step away , nobody specifically told them to resign they could have stayed if they wanted to, the priest and the church backed them.

But the chance of been 'martyrs' and the attention seemed be far too alluring to turn down.

Who cares? It's not a government position and no one has any entitlement to any particular position. If you don't like it, then don't go to that church.

The Clonskeagh Mosque won't allow me join their community on the grounds I believe Islamic is satanic. Pure discrimination.

Except the club had no problem with them continuing in their role, just this nasty busy body who made it so unpleasant that they felt they had no choice but to resign!!

I agree it's not a government position and no one has any entitlement to any particular position however they do have the right to live out their faith in piece and not have some busybody cause them trouble just because he doesn't like them!

If we all walked away from various clubs because of unpleasant busy bodies there would be very few still left in any club or group throughout the country.

All sorts of issues - the parishioner is right in one thing - as long as the Church opposes gay marriage and is anti-gay, it is weird that they sing in the Choir. And why would they want to? Fair play to the Priest for supporting them - but he is going against his church.

So they should have updated it each year for 2016 times? What kind of religion would that be?
