So is it Leo or Martin that is going to fire the starting shot of GE 2017?
It looks like the debacle around Sgt Mc Cabe is deepening each day and FG are just looking like they have participated in one big cover job to save Frances Fitzgerald.

The Dail arithmetic is complicated at the minute. No party has anywhere near the numbers required to govern comfortably. Are the partys ready!

If there is an election will FG suffer?
Will FF become the largest party?
How will SF do under Mary Lou?
Will there be a Lab wipe out?

This link will give you a good idea of how the partys stand.

General election 2017 looking likely.

Will Santa bring the Taoiseach's office for Martin?

Prediction
FF - big gains.
FG - second biggest party
SF - won't gain much
Lab - wipeout (fingers crossed, wishful thinking)
Independents - wipeout. Well deserved.
Greens - gone
Social Democrats - maybe a gain or two?

Because it would make Varadkar look weak in giving into SF/FF, he can't do that.

I have gone to my favoured political anorak, and he is not offering any odds on a 2017 election and 1/3 on a 2018 election.

Next Tainiste , Paschal at 7/4.

On the contrary it would make him look like a strong leader by nipping this in the bud.

FG: 50 to 55. Some gains offset by modest losses.

FF: 44 to 51. Will make modest gains.

SF: 23 to 25. Padraig McLochlainn will regain a seat in DL. Not sure they will pick up much extra this time out, feels like a limit to their support at present.

Lab: 7 to 6. Assuming someone or two retire and O'Riordain makes a comeback.

Solidarity PBP: 6 to 5. More likely to lose a seat (Brid Smith) than gain.

Soc Dems: 2 to 3. Gary Gannon good chance of a seat in North Central.

Green: 2 to 1. Catherine Martin not safe.

Others: 24 to 12. Way down.

Confidence and Supply - Mark 2

FG will prop up a FF minority Government because some of the Irish electorate will think it is a good thing.
Brexit, Germany in limbo, Trump proliferating, keep the house price rising etc.
The state needs the status quo, just coz, like, d'ya know what I mean...
