SF are far from meltdown in Louth. After Cavan Monaghan it's the second safest seat for SF.Completely agree - SF are in meltdown and this smacks of desperation. Let's not forget that Adams is in his 60s.
Sharkey is a liability and with Labour getting a national boost and perhaps FG running MMcG again, there is certainly no guaranteed SF seat.KeithM: SF would have no problem holding onto Louth if they ran Sharkey. Just look at the local election results.
This could backfire horribly.
If true, it can only be because Gerry wants to enter the Dáil. Where else would he plausibly run?SF are far from meltdown in Louth. After Cavan Monaghan it's the second safest seat for SF.
It is an odd decision to run there. I cant see the reasoning for it.
I don't dispute that Morgan would most likely have held the seat. However it was far from certain they would retain it without him, especially if they were stupid eniough to run Sharkey who comes from the overly-congested Dundalk end of the constituency. That is risible analysis. Morgan would easily have held the seat.
