Some innocent priests are open to accusations.

Interesting report on child abuse ( 2015 ) released recently.

3% were abused by priests.

25% abused within the family.

4% abused by women.

More children abused by women than by priests - that's
some statistic, eh?

Rather more women around the place than priests though. As a percentage of all priests thats going to be quite a high figure.

No wonder you want to compare it to half the world's population.

Some other issues - access to potential victims is greater for priests, and of course the huge conspiracy within the Church to cover up the crimes of the guilty and deny their victims justice.

So priests make up the same % of the population as women? Talk about twisting figures.

Women make up more than 3.5 billion of the population and commit 4% of abuse.

Priests make up 460000 of the wold wide population and commit 3% of the abuse,

The OP wants to criticise accused persons for seeking legal help.

Clearly an anti Catholic, anti church thread.

Priests accused of sexual carry on are being advised to call a lawyer instead of flogging the rosary beads.

Wallet-sized information card given to priests accused of sexual violence | Irish Examiner

I dont believe that ALL priests/bishops etc accused of sex crimes are guilty as that would be quite a shock.

Should they ALL not be praying instead?

Confirmation classes for starters.....

But glad to see you acknowledge the huge conspiracy within the Church to cover up the crimes of the guilty and deny their victims justice
School recently had male children going in one to one with parish priest for confession. New right wing youngish priest. Cannot believe this is being facilitated in a state run school.

That's very wrong.

The priest concerned was an idiot - he lays himself open to false accusations that might be made thirty or forty years later.

But the staff of the school are the ones most at fault. Enforcing child-protection procedures is supposed to be a part of their day-to-day working life.

It's certainly an amazingly dishonest manipulation of what the statistics mean alright. Because there is very roughly one Roman Catholic priest in Ireland for every four or five hundred adult women.

That makes the average priest almost 300 times more likely to be the culprit of an act of sexual abuse on a minor than the average adult woman.

Now that's some statistic.

Post-Vatican2 many priests developed their own individual way of hearing confession, and the style in which some priests heard children's confession was in fact their modus operandi of child sex abuse.

That's come out in scandals all around the world.

I'm pretty sure that here in London laid-down First Confession Procedure is for adults to take the children into the church and for the confession to be in an old-style soundproofed two-cubicle confession box, with the adults outside keeping an eye on things.

It's just a simple commonsense matter of risk-management. It protects the child; and it also protects the priest and the diocese against any false claims.

But, as I read Ellie's post, she's heard of somewhere where regrettably that didn't happen.
