Why is there no politicians any more that are principled men who have the testicular fortitude to stand up for the concept of what's right and wrong; no wonder the disaffected and delusional youth of today have no interest in politics? 'Where have all the heroes gone?'

it's our own fault dedalus - we vote for the slime balls and the politicians who tell us what they think we want to hear.

This is the core problem of politics in most democracies these days. 'Principle' is dead. I recall one FF councillor expressing bewilderment at the fact that some people taking part in the anti-bin charges protests did not 'even have to pay bin charges'. For the life of him he could not understand the concept of standing up against a perceived injustice when one had nothing to gain.

Very sad.

men of true principle

'You never said a truer word, Kev. Maybe we should set up a new party called: "The Principled Man Party! "

What would you expect from FF, they are all a shower of "me feiners". There should be a new party built on centrist principles and ideology and moving away from the civil war designations and parish pump , me fein , cronyism laden petty politics.

Why do all politicians have to be men?

Testicular Fortitude :!: What does that mean :?:

No wonder women are disaffected from politics when people are looking for male politicians with testicular fortitude :!:

The Blessed Margaret had more balls than the rest of her cabinet.

It's only an expression.

You might be looking in the wrong places.

I feel that principles are not always compatable with politics. Its the nature of the beast.

IMO politics is the Art of Compromise. How do you fit priciples in with this concept?

You would be better off looking for principled men and woman in other feilds of life especially the Voluntary sector, the Religious sector and the Caring sector.

There you will find principles to beat the band. If you cannot compromise on anything then fight your corner from these sectors as lobbyists, activists etc etc.

Politics really is a dirty job and somebody does have to do it.....

Don't usually agree to much with Mise_Eire, but can't argue with this one.

Was looking at a post here on Sinn Fein's stance on immigration and the various suggestions that they should adopt a more anti-immigration stance if they want to attract voters, i.e. they should not stand by their principles.

Unfortunately, this is what a party needs to do, appeal to the middle-of-the-road voter. New Labour, a prime example of principles being thrown out the window to obtain and maintain power.

If we could get the free thinking independents and minority parties to come together, that would be some hope for proper change, kind of a Political equivalent to the Unitarian Church where all men of value are welcome!

As it is, we have Fianna Fail and/or Fine Gael's monopoly on power, financed by coporations and it's hard to see which is the lesser of two evils. And McDowell talks about Sinn Fein diverting the democratic process !!

Somebody here said something about men of principles and the lack of them in Irish politics. Hello? This is CATHOLIC Ireland! Where do you think Carnivorous Celtic Tiger came from? Holy Catholic Ireland, that's where

I'm sorry to be the one to break the news to you, but the Provos don't have any principles.
