Very sad to hear this.

To be honest 75 doesn't seem so old any more. I tend to expect people to live well into their 80s, so if someone less than 80s died I wonder why, as opposed to just assuming old age.

Perhaps that's unrealistic, I think the average age for men is under 80 still and perhaps just over 80 for women.

I read his autobiography years ago - he was an interesting man. Quite humble and self-effacing I thought, and clearly intelligent.

He had an excellent sense of comic timing which so many actors seem to lack.

And he did very well for a gay man in the 80s when the British tabloids were utterly vile to gay men. He was even caught using male escorts and he just calmly admitted it, taking a lot o the sting out of it.

In his autobiography he simply said he was unattractive and overweight but still had needs, so he paid. It was refreshingly candid and honest, and he wasn't boasting about it, just plainly stating the facts.

It didn't seem to affect his career, which I think it could have done - he was obviously very well-liked.

Mind you, he didn't do a lot, at least on TV at least after Allo Allo - I think he might have been typecast.

RIP

Allo Allo was one of those series that they made too many episodes of .

If it had stopped sooner it would be thought of as a classic..........

I think of it as a classic. It did go on a little too long, but I don't think it stopped it being a classic.
