The Government has just announced that the Donegal South West by-election will take place before the end of the month. The announcement follows the High Court decision earlier today to uphold Pearse Doherty's action against the government for the delay in hosting the by-election following Pat The Cope Gallagher's resignation as a TD. Gallagher resigned in June of last year to take a seat in the European Parliament for Ireland North West.

The Attorney General briefed the cabinet over the past few hours on the implications of Pearse Doherty's successful challenge against the "unreasonable delay" in running the by election in Donegal South West, and Sinn Fein announced it would move the writ tomorrow morning, however the Government has announced it will appeal the High Court's ruling to the Supreme Court.

The Government will now move the writ themselves in the Dáil tomorrow, with the election to take place by the end of the month.

More cases?

Especially if 90 days was mentioned as the possible limit of reasonable?

If the Greens are to believed and the others will take place in early march, there is probably no need to.

Just trying to take some of the kudos away from SF as we were planning on putting a writ forward ourselves.

They'll never be able to take credit away from Pearse for the great service he's done to the people of Donegal.

Surely this is then end... there is no way the budget will be passed... all it will take is one of them to cut themselves shaving and the whole thing comes crumbling down.

you'd expect nothing else from the corrupt scum that are Fianna Fail.

Tomorrow morning we'll see what the Greens, Healy Rea and Lowry are made of when the other writs are moved.

Do they believe in the rule of law or anti democratic corrupt government ?

Been there, done that. Very pissed off having bought the t-shirt.

George Lee's seat is well over the 90 days by now.

An amenable judge could deliver a favourable decision, based on precedent surely. Why aren't the lads doing the rounds of the courts asking to be heard?

You're a year and a half late. You should have made that point when the government announced Lisbon II. The electorate has shown a desire to be treated as doormats, the government is only fullfilling that.

It is now up to the people of Donegal not to return a FF muppet to the Dail again.

You'd imagine all the parties are going to throw everything at this election... the pressure on the sheeple in Donegal to do the country some service will be huge.

So government will vote down FG on them moving the writ tomorrow? That will be pretty astounding.
