Priority Legislation for Publication This Session

(Amendment) Bill
The Bill will provide necessary powers to the Minister to allow the de-designation of certain Raised Bog Natural Heritage Areas, as required in line with a review approved by Government in 2014 and submitted to the European Commission in the context of ongoing legal action against Ireland

Education (Admission to Schools) Bill
To contain provisions regarding the enrolment of pupils in schools and the requirement for schools to operate enrolment policies in a transparent fashion
Pre-Legislative Scrutiny took place in March 2014

Water Services Bill
To suspend the water charges for nine months and establish an External Advisory Body

Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict (Hague Convention) Bill
To enable the State to ratify the 1954 Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and to Accede to its 1999 Protocol [or they could stop enabling the wars that destroy property and people]

Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Bill
To control certain drugs including prescription medicines, which are being misused and sold illegally

Companies (Accounting) Bill
To transpose the EU Accounting Directive (2013/34/EU)

Criminal Justice Bill
To respond to organised crime and in particular to enhance the law on seizure of proceeds of crime

Criminal Justice (Suspended Sentences of Imprisonment) Bill
To amend S. 99 (Power to suspend sentence) of the Criminal Justice Act 2006, following the High Court Judgment of 19 April which found subsections 99(9) and 99(10) of the Act to be unconstitutional

Criminal Justice (Victims of Crime) Bill
To give effect to EU Directive 2012/29 establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime

Commissions of Investigation (IBRC) Bill
To address matters affecting the work of the IBRC Commission of Investigation

Paternity Bill
To provide for the introduction of 2 weeks paternity leave and associated social welfare benefit as from September 2016
