I am recommending that the Irish Govt reduce all corporation tax further to a maximum of 8%.

This will have the following major advantages.

[1] Increase Irelands desireability as a venue for foreign direct investment thus providing more badly need jobs.

[2] Send a very clear and concise message to our EU partners that Ireland decides its own destiny

Now is the time to make our EU partners understand fully , comprehensively & finally, that the Irish people decide their own destiny in matters of taxation.

So you decided to title your suggestion in the most deliberately misleading way possible. Nicely done.

In what way is the title misleading?

Are you implying in the snottiest manner possible that a private citizen cannot make a recommendation to the government?

If you are then you are just another one of the common herd intimidated by not just the defective Irish government but also by the even more defective EU:rolleyes:

Great idea, and when the government needs to make up the shortfall in tax receipts they can simply cut the welfare budget again.

Lets keep on taking money from the poor and continue to look after big business who even though make fortunes pay a very small amount of tax thanks to the city accountants.

Keep up the great ideas!

Here is another idea for ya, lets TAX the hell out of anyone who displays the FF traitors Avatar!

Totally misleading thread title, but I will still give you +1 for effort :)

Wish they would do this but can't see it happening.

Im not joking.
The fact that you dismiss the post illustrates a refusal to consider it seriously.

Ya. Let's build our economy based off a system supported by unsustainable taxes.
That worked so well for us last time.

How about as a nation we stand on our own merits, without basing our entire nation off a fdi tax bubble.

Eventually, well be forced to drop it, and then were fooked.

OK so I am a wealthy business owner who has been facilitated at every turn by FF at the expense of the ordinary worker.
FF lower the minimum wage, I migrate these savings to my own wages and throw a little thrupenny piece into the FF kitty - happy days.
Then FF propose to cut my tax rate by 30%, more money for me. Yippee!!
I just love these guys.
Screw the people of Ireland, FF are my heroes!

There will be no shortfall.
An 8% corp tax will induce many many foreign companies to set up in Ireland thus off setting any shortfall.

Indeed an 8 % corporation tax will actually improve state revenues in the medium term.

Your fears are entirely without foundation so relax.

If Ireland goes ahead with this, other countries could (and indeed, should) retaliate by putting tarrifs on Irish exports. In a globalised economy (and the Irish economy is extremely globalised) no country fully "decides its own destiny".

How much would this cost based on current level of businesses in ireland?
How much will fdi increase as a result of this measure?

Good idea in a parallel universe in which nobody holds you accountable for the level of revenue you generate from an already generous tax regime. You realise you immediately reduce ALL CT by 33% and you think that would go down well with the electorate? To your point [1] we already are a very desirable location and [2] just keeping the rate at 12.5% achieves this.

But only with regard to German, French & Austrian companies. :D
Any Indigenous based EU companies ie whose shareholding could be shown to be be 65% owned by EU nationals that set up shop in Ireland would enjoy an additional o.87 % reduction in corporation tax leaving the rate they would enjoy at 7.13%.

Again this would send the correct message to Irelands EU political partners that Ireland decides its taxation base on an independent basis.

Actally it wouldn't be more money for any private individual. You would have to take money out of the company by way of salary and pay your taxes on it before it would be for your personal use!

It may however stimulate even more investment.

I don't believe the majority of the electorate outside of the beard growing sandle wearing socialists following Joe Higgins and the ULA would object.

Also we should introduce a bailout exit-levy (oh, say €85M per bailout) to be paid by foreign governments and agencies before they leave Dublin Airport. :)
