He is in a very difficult position. Spending must be reduced somehow.

Anyone know if the GRA voted no confidence in a Justice Minister before?

If so, who was the last Minister it happened to?

Minister Shatter and the GRA on a collision course - who will blink first?

"The Garda Representative Association has passed a motion of no confidence in the Minister for Justice Equality and Defence Alan Shatter. The motion was passed at a meeting of the GRA Central Executive today."

Garda Representative Association passes motion of no confidence in Justice Minister

GRA votes 'no confidence' in Shatter
Factually, for the police to take on the Government is very problematic, as there can only be one winner there.

Then afterward, we have a defeated and cowed police force which has lost moral authority and public confidence.

I wonder if the GRA have really thought this through, and if so, what is their exit strategy?

They better have one......

Loads of Local authority and HSE staff that were employed through nepotism that could go.
Where is leo varadker's big list of QUANGOS, what we have here is a govt who simply doesn't know how to prioritise the running of the state, there is hundreds of bodies that could be cut loose in the morning.

They can pass motions until they're blue in the face, it won't change the reality that cuts have to be made, what makes the Gardai believe they are special and somehow immune to cuts?

I agree but are you suggesting that the Gardai should be exempt from all cuts. If so why?

They have already taken there fair share of cuts, surely other cuts can be found in the Justice Department. Have Solicitors taken any cuts? They continue to enrich themselves from the free legal aid gravy train?

This is basically being forced on the gra from the members themselves, that's how bad things are......shatter is a receipe for disaster, everytime he opens his mouth he pisses more people off. You could say the gra is like ictu, trying to keep the workers in line.......
holding "parades" every now and again.

I think it's clear to all at the bottom/middle that we are the people who have been selected to pay for the wrecking of this country, never worked in your life....no problem carry on mate.
bankrupted the country.....no problem systerms failure.

The pay/pensions/expences at the top in this country are what could only be described as obscene, is it any wonder people have said we ain't taking it anymore ?
