This is incredible stuff, even allowing for the political naivety of the Green TDs.

"We believe it is time to fix a date for a General Election in the second half of January 2011," he said.

But in a sign of disarray, Green chairman Dan Boyle said yesterday that Mr Gormley only said a date for the election would have to announced by the end of January.

He said he wanted to "put to bed" the belief the General Election would be held in January.

This is a perfect example of the Greens' inability to think things through before opening the hot air valve beneath their noses. They just end up making roaring jackasses and liars of themselves and each other.

Even at this low point in their existence they should try to salvage a shred of self-respect and walk out of the strait jacket they've tied themselves into.

Utterly pathetic.
It won't happen until the cold goes away.

How do you explain global warming when people are freezing in their houses?

That's a question for another thread. The term 'global warming' has taken over from what used to be a more accurate description of what's happening and that's Climate Change.

They still won't give up the luxury of their warm offices to knock on doors in winter.

I don't think they reckon the weather will be any better in March.

I honestly think they've been convinced by their Fianna Fáil colleagues that if they delay a little before pulling the plug, they'll get some legislation that's dear to their naive little hearts passed.

This is, of course, utter madness. Several senior FFers have already described what the Greens have done in preannouncing their withdrawal as a "betrayal". Fianna Fáil will therefore do nothing to help them and everything they can politically afford to damage them. That is how Cowen's code of loyalty to the party works.

In particular, the idea that they'll get any ban on corporate donations over the line is quite simply laughable.

Just read Dan Boyle's twitter account, he is a pathetic excuse of a wannabe politican, making excuses for going back on their word.
Don't they realsie this betrayal and misleading attitude is going to backfire on them even more.

the difficulty for them is that they are no longer a party. They are all doing their own things and no one is in control. You have Dan Boyle tweeting rubbish over and over again as if he invented it. His colleagues dont know what he might say next. You have "Gogarty the Mad" throwing his toys out of the pram everytime he talks and then just talking nonsence. Ryan is running a round telling us that Ireland has full broadband. FFS thats great( even though the experts say that even that is a lie) as we will all be able to apply for emmigration visas online. Gormley is just keeping his head below the wall hoping that no one will ask him whats going on.It madness.

I suspect no one knows what they are doing. They have fallen to pieces and meanwhile FF are just playing with them. Thats what they do best, just tantalise tease and destroy. poor old greens. It was a harsh lesson alright and unfortunately not one I think they will ever recover from

This is the same party that supported NAMA and various budgets that sucked the blood of the Irish economy and society. How can we take their word to do anything decent.

They share a guiding principle that binds them together:
Greens in Government = Always swallow. Never spit.

Maybe the could reinvent themselves by attracting some likeminded and established political heavyweights.
Harney, how's your diary looking for 2011?

But note the way the greens worded the statement - "we believe it is time to fix the date for a General Election in the second half of January 2011" could mean either (a) that they wanted an election in the second half of the coming January, or (b) they wanted FF in the second half of January to fix a date. If you take (b) as the interpretation FF only has to announce sometime in the latter half of next month any date they want in the next 2 years for a GE and the greens would say they were satisfied.

The amount of hot air emanating from the Greens must surely be reaping devastating effects on Gas levels and Global warming.

Dan Boyles' asthmatic tweets alone are punching unbelievable holes in then integrity of the stratosphere.

If they really cared they'd compost themselves without delay.

Greens in Government = Always swallow. Never spit.

The Greens should set an exact date when they're going to pull up of government. That way legislation they want can through on time as well as avoiding Fianna Fáil deliberately time wasting to cling onto power.

But Brian Cowen wants another visit to the White House to get drunk and sing a few notes of a tune and of course pass over the customary bowl of shamrock.

Well, if they do not call a general election by second half of January, they've just lied to the people AGAIN!

In 2008 we had to put up with Bertie going on his "lap of honour" while government went into freeze frame.

Now nearly three years on, his successor is playing a similar game - except this time the country is even in worse shape.

No shame, no bloody shame.......
