Investigation after garda submachine gun found in Dublin city centre by member of the public

"AN INVESTIGATION IS under way after a fully-loaded submachine gun belonging to a member of An Garda Siochána was found in Dublin city centre.

The gun was handed in to Store Street garda station yesterday by a member of the public.

The gun is believed to have been an MP7, a compact submachine gun described by its manufacturer as being designed to “be carried like a handgun yet capable of rifle-like effectiveness”.

Apparently, they're looking into it.

Ive heard stories about brash young bog boys from templemore thinking they are Elliot Ness and being very casual with their weapons.

Found in the jacks of coppers by any chance?

Going to the bathroom, and misplacing a handgun can happen

Misplacing a sub machine gun is harder, though the ERU may not have the added stock in the one shown in the photo

c 2kg weight , bag of flour

Some new-born babies can be even lighter, but people tend not to misplace them.

No, that would be a pub-machine gun.

Probably staring down it's barrel while it's still loaded.

I'd say whoever signed it out is contemplating it.

if they keep their job the will be on syringe pick up duty for life.

unless they are above inspector level.
be grand then

They said on Morning Ireland that it fell out of a car.

I reckon it fell off a car (put on the roof and forgotten about).

We did that with a cooked chicken one time, it was only when we started to tuck into the picnic that we realised.

Our "Boys & girls in Blue" must be in a permanent state of mortification.

I’d have put it in the Lost And Found section if Donedeal and supplied Charlie Flanagan’s number

Well, that's an investigation that shouldn't last more than a couple of hours, assuming they actually keep track of who's in possession of these things. After that, what possible excuse is there for not only losing a loaded submachine but also failing to notice and/or report it long enough for a member of the public to happen upon it? It'd have to be a lot better than "the dog ate my homework", "the money was just resting in my account" or "your sister just popped round to help with the cleaning, dear, but it was very hot so we had to strip off while cleaning the bedroom.".
