A gunman started shooting people in Strasbourg, France around 8:00pm local time.

Initial details are usually sketchy, but the French police have said that the gunman is "known to security services".

2 people are reported to have been killed, and 11 injured.

Any theories with respect to this gunman's motive?

Strasbourg shooting: Gunman at large after two killed and 11 injured - BBC News

"The gunman, known to security services, is on the run and is being hunted by police. He had been injured in an exchange of gunfire with a soldier, police said.

The shooting happened close to a Christmas market in one of the central squares, Place Kléber.

France's counter terrorism prosecutor has opened an investigation.

Confirming the death toll had risen to two, the French interior minister, Christophe Castaner, who is on his way to the city, called it a "serious public security incident"."

4 dead now.
Where did you get that info from?

Does that mean that he shot 2 more people dead after killing 2 during the initial incident? He was described as being on the run after the initial incident.

CNN are reporting that the initial incident may be simple criminality, as opposed to terrorism.

They could be right, although as they are CNN they probably aren't. A shooter at a Christmas market does sound odd though. The islamo-savages usually prefer a truck for such gilt edged seasonal opportunities.

If this guy is a Muslim extremist and was known to the French security forces, surely he was being watched.

If he was being watched how the heck did he get a gun and grenades?

I always assumed that such people on watchlists were "visited" by their watchers from time to time to try to disrupt any plans that they were formulating.

When you have millions of death cult followers inside your Country you can only keep an eye on so much. All Muslim Countries have to put up with this. Why would France be any different?

But this guy was already known to French authorities because of his extremist views.

I'm not advocating watching millions of people, rather watching identified extremists very carefully.

Your "assumptions" will no doubt be of profound consolation to the families of those slaughtered tonight.
