Hack in the USA - Russians infiltrate American electricity grid.

Just over a year ago, a power failure caused by Russian hackers plunged large areas of western Ukraine into darkness and they struck again in the last 10 days.

Vasyl Pemchuk is the electric control center manager, and said that when hackers took over their computers, all his workers could do was film it with their cell phones.

“It was illogical and chaotic,” he said. “It seemed like something in a Hollywood movie.”
Now, it seems that they're also targeting the USA. The Washington Post has reported that a code known to be related to Russian hackers was found in a production component system of the US power grid in Vermont on Thursday night. So while Obama was announcing the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats, the Russians were getting in their response early.

The paper quotes US officials as saying that the code was isolated before it caused any disruption.

Didn't the Iranians deliberately install the Stuxnet virus to sabotage their own nuclear industry?

Attention-seeking bastards.

Could be. Could be.

On a related note, I do recall that Iranian nuclear scientists seemed to have an uncommonly high death rate a few years ago.

Where to start with this phoney story?

(1) Its in Ukraine, not Russia, that an aleged cyber-attack has taken place on an electricity plant. Knowing the state Ykraine is in, its perfectly possible someone got drunk and pulled the wrong lever. Of course they will blame Russia, thats all they ever do.

(2) There is no evidence of a Russian attack on an American plant. The code found is used by hackers apparently. Any hackers. Not just Russian hackers. We dont know its level of sophistication. It might be script-kiddie.

Basically the reporter has cobbled together a series of never-happeneds, and don-knows - pure insinuation - and got a story together that Russia has for sure retaliated against the US expelling its diplomats by for sure targeting a utilities plant in Washington. At whose request we can be sure, because any decent sub- editor would have spiked this farrago.

Its laughable rubbish. Thats the news nowadays.

If people don't take the time to read sources provided, that makes for bad news too. The Ukrainian hack wasn't caused a drunk person pulling a lever. The source was traced to this:

The hackers sent emails with infected attachments to power company employees, stealing their login credentials and then taking control of the grid’s systems to cut the circuit breakers at nearly 60 substations.

As described in the second of the links in the OP.

The correct response is military strike. A Russian warship or a few lines get walloped with a tomahawk. A real President, ie not Barry Hussein Obama, would then phone the KGB thug with a warning that the next time the strike will be harder and faster,

If the Yanks are convinced that the Russians did it, I think that a like-for-like retaliation would be the best option. Power cuts are common in Russia anyway so it wouldn't take much to crash the whole system.

The only thing is that Putin is a typical Russian leader who doesn't give a flying f__k about his people. As long as his belly is full and his feet are warm, he won't care what privations are inflicted on his long-suffering nation.

How about this for a plan - fix your IT security and stop letting the Russians grab your pussy.
