Regarding the weather, a Garda I knew years ago used to pray for torrential rain on Halloween night...

Oh the joy!

Buses will stop running early in a lot of places. Another excuse for behaving like animals. Actually I take that back as an insult to our furry friends.

can we borrow a few psni water cannons and armoured landies?

go in heavy with riot gear and worry about the consequences tomorrow...we can't allow gangs etc to run feral for even one night.

So I have to cycle from Sheriff St. up the North Circular and out through Finglas to get home this evening...

I hope to report back later on my safe arrival home ;), failing that I'll probably have a great collection of fireworks and rocks/bottles

UPDATE:One rock and a couple of bangers, no bottles (that were close enough to notice), on the whole a quiet Halloween ;)

I suppose the conclusion is that certain sections of society need to let off a little steam every now and then. I'm inclined to agree.

Best of luck :)

Aside from the violence of the night their is underage drinking to think about aswell. I used to drink when I was underage but I would never drink Halloween night, far too dangerous its one of those nights of the year like paddys day were youth goes savage. Not to mention the amount of Casual sex that it is to come as the night goes on. Plenty of young girls go to nightclubs dressing like whores. I swear to god we have a generation of whores and drug addicts and nights like these expose that. Luckily however their has been very little fireworks heard which may be a sign of easiness or calm before the storm........

Im from the quiet enough part of Finglas/Glasnevin. I would not even contemplate going anywhere near Finglas West or South tonight. Good luck:roll:

Seems to be less fireworks around. Usually they are going for weeks beforehand. I'm in quiet enough spot but will not be walking the dog tonight.

We won't be going in to parts of the city tonight without a Garda escort. Places like cherry orchard, sherriff st, parts of Finglas, west tallaght and north clondalkin will be crazy tonight. Certainly don't go near them tonight unless you have to. Crazy night ahead!

Like Paddy's Day and now Arthur's Day, Halloween is just another Irish public public piss up - but this one's for the kids, so there are bonfires and fireworks thrown in.

Will we ever learn?

It's a pity really. Not even a kids thing anymore. Very few even knock the doors these days.

The vast majority have a good time and enjoy themselves. It's a few scumbags who ruin it. Book should be thrown at them regardless of the lack of facilities and amenities or the fact that daddy didn't love them enough.

Im from Finglas myself I mentioned that above. I worry that a large minority of underclass thugs give the other hard working members of the community a bad name.

I am disturbed by the sheer cowardice of our police force. What happens tonight is going to be complete and utter anarchy . My suggestion to anyone who is unfortunate enough to live in such a community is to lock all your doors, protect your windows using hard wood, and stay guard at your door all night armed with a baseball bat. If an intruder enters you have every right to use violence to protect yourself and your family.

I agree - I did it myself you know, gathering mattresses and tires and what not from around the estate where I grew up. We'd then light a huge bonfire and we enjoyed it. When I was a teenager I stood at the same bonfires drinking cans of cider. Still, we weren't (most of us) trouble makers, that is, we didn't throw rocks or bottles are Gardai or Fire Services and we didn't throw bangers at defenceless animals.

So I think it's time random public bonfires were just done away with. I've had my fun;)
