There is little doubt Fianna Fail is now severely wounded, if not mortally so. Is there a saviour in its ranks? Lenihan, Ahern, Martin and Dempsey have all shown their ineptness over the past number of years. Is Hanafin big enough for the task??

at this stage does it really matter who will lead FF, our problem is that there are still 17% of the Irish public who say they are still going to vote for FF at the next election. However seen that I have money on Hanafin to become the next leader, go Mary go.

Leader of what? The FFkers should have no need for a leader when the people have had their say.

Why not? the former treasurer duting the CJH/Ray Burke era, just the kind of teacher to lead us out of the economic abyss. At least she knows where the various bodies are buried.

Hanafin.
Pros
- did not hold an economic ministry
- is capable of communicating plainly
- does not drink.
- there's bound to done votes in woman leader.

Cons
- she has been at cabinet when woeful decisions were made
- her school marm attitude
- is not especially likeable, intelligent or popular.

If you wipe out Fianna Fails ability to grant pork, that 17% would dwindle into single figures rather quickly.

That will exclude most of the candidates.

Who cares?

Honestly, who cares, it will take them years to recover from this.

Having said that, let's see what comes in from Donegal. The Irish electorate is a v strange beast.

I repeat that there cant really be a third Taoiseach in the life of this Dail without going to the people. It is pushing democracy to the limits, but they did it in Donegal, and besides Lowry and JHR have said they will not support it. So Biffo will go down with his ship.

New FF leader will be long gone before FF will be in government again.

They are starting to remind me of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada - their last leader was a woman who lost her seat in a wipe out.
