This thread concerns the Acadamey Awards 2018.

On Sunday 4 March, at 5PM US Pacific Standard Time, in Los Angeles, the 2018 Acadamy Awards will take place. Oscar will be 90. Hollywood will give itself a pat on the back for being Hollywood.

This will be the first Oscars show since Harvey Weinsten (finally) got revealed, by the sterling work of Ronan Farrow. Farrow investigated allegations against Weinstein, whereby he would use his power to demand their acquiesence to his sexual demands.

What followed was a list of many actresses coming forward with statements about how they were mistreated by Weinstein. And in some cases of actresses who refused to go along with his demands, and whose careers were impacted.

Farrow found himself being turned against by much of the mainstream media, when he first tried to publish the story, with the New York Times rubbishing his claims. Eventually he published his findings in New York Magagazine. Weinstein had made threats to Farrow, and the New York Times supported Weinstein.

Hollywood had been hiding/disregarding what was common knowledge for years. With the dam broke, and news out, many actresses came forward and told what had occurred.

What eventually followed was a series of allegations about Weinstein and other leading personalities in the US Big Film sector.

Including an allegation against Kevin Spacey, that resulted in Spacey being dropped from Netflix. Spacey's explanation of his behaviour also caused a backlash, that has virtually wiped him out of the media.

This thread is about how the sector will cover it's first awards ceremony minus the man who was held in such massive esteem for over two decades. And how it grapples to take ownership of the fallout, prevent any more damage to it's image, and goes on a PR assault to pretend that it is now all fixed up.

And why did Farrow find it so difficult to get any assistance from television networks and the newspaper sector ?

This is Ronan Farrow, coming forward with the story, and detailing how he investigated and cover the story.

Why did it take a non-American actress to get the story out ? Starting with an Italian actress who went to the police with a recording of Weinstein bing threatening and controlling of her. And also a German actress who was public about her ordeal by Weinstein.

And why is it still the case that actresses outside the US, are more forthcoming than inside the US ?

How will HARVEYWOOD manage the PR of troubling revelations of widespread abuse, and even more widespread coverups ?

Will there be any mention of Roman Polanski this year ? Even from Meryl Streep ?

And more importantly, how will HARVEYWOOD comfort itself on the fact that Harvey himself will probably not be present ?

I posted this OP in the US politic section because
i ) It is almost certain that HARVEYWOOD will lambast the current US Administration, and make this a political event.
ii ) I cannot remember anything that Hollywood has produced that I would classify as entertainment in years.

How they will miss Harvey.

How the Irish media, will speak in reverence of what is presented, and talk about the pat on the head for never questioning it ?

Watch oscars stars who have thanked Harvey Weinstein in the past in the Academy Awards

Those annoying adverts in Hollywood that reference the pervasive coverup culture

The presenter will be Television specialist Jimmy Krimmel. Krimmel is no stranger to controversy, as per the following clip. Krimmel is expected to not do anything that might upset the industry, it's confidence, or it's view of itself.

Can we expect Krimmel to divert attention away from the debacle, and the complicit culture that facilitated Weinstein ?

Finally, full credit to Ronan Farrow, for doing the hard work, and doing the public considerable service.

OP seems to be suggesting there will be far more criticism by luvvies of President Trump than Molester Weinstein, but luvvies should be warned that not naming and condemning Molester Weinstein in their acceptance speech is simply unacceptable to movie goers

They give that scumbag Charlie Chaplin a award in the 70s. All cheering for him even though it was known that he was a child abuser.

Marlon Brando and Hollywood at their sanctimonious best.

Truly vomit inducing. Those who have been stupid enough to be pissing away their hard earned cash last night on alcohol are advised not to click the link.

Hollywood’s awards season has deteriorated into an endless round of virtue-signalling, hypocritical bullsh*t as the planet’s most infamously ill-behaved town pretends to be outraged by its own immorality.

We’ve had the black dresses, the white ribbons, the furious red carpet rages and the weepy podium speeches.

None of it has been about movies; all of it has been about actors competing with each other for the coveted title of Best Victim.

Now they’re excitedly preparing for the big one… the Academy Awards – a chance to scale new heights of ridiculous self-aggrandising preaching to the billion people watching around the world.

Hollywood is full of shallow scumbags. Now that the Harvey story has broken they’ll try to project themselves as anti harassment, women will try to talk about “girl power” or some other meaningless tripe.

Great OP---I had the first Harvey Weinstein thread pulled as well. This was after New York Times piece on Wallbanger had been published.I think a second one got pulled as well. Not P.ie's finest hour. Hollywood will struggle to gift wrap a Hollywood ending around this sludgefest.Hollywood is like the Democrat Party---Done

I can't think of a good movie I saw this year.
I think ‘The Departed’ was possibly the last flick that was any good from Hollywood.

Must be ten years now.

Hypocrilipse Now. (MERYL ?)

V for Virtue Signalling.

Clueless (speaks for itself)

The French Connection (Meryl's bail jumping hero's current residence)

Virtue Signal Baby Virtue Signal.

The Silence of the Lambs. (Until it suited to them to speak out)

All About me.

The Attention Hunter.

Come and See. (me)

Dial M for Meryl. (Anytime Mr Polanski)

The Lives of Others (are unknown to us in our bubble)

Enough! The bull**** quotient is going to massive. To think it was once about cinema. Hope the rating are disasterous. Won't be watching it myself. Hope enough do to same to make the producers realise that they have to cut the ill informed, fashionable of the moment, political crap that the actors think they know something about and feel they should bore the public with. They think it makes them look like caring individuals, not fragile, egotistical, insecure thespians.

Its a strange society that rewards those who pretend to be heroes more than we reward heroes themselves.

There was a documentary on the other night about Harvey Weinstein and man that guy was some operator. He was basically in the movie business to have as much access to potential victims as possible. One former model described how he 'engineered' a whole evening so that the two of them would end up together alone in his hotel room. He even went to great lengths to pretend that her friends were coming in another car.

Once in the room, she turned around to find a naked Harv standing in front of her, which she described as 'something she would never forget'.

She locked herself in the bathroom and told him to go away and he finally started crying and wailing that she didn't like him 'because he was fat'.

A total manipulator and freak.
