Presumably it's this.

Court quashes 1971 manslaughter conviction - RT News

Mr Conmey's legal team claimed 'newly discovered facts' proved he was not responsible for Ms Lynskey's death.
The Court of Criminal Appeal found that statements made by three witnesses were not disclosed to the defence and should have been.
The court found that gardaí took witness statements from three men and then returned a number of days later to take further statements, which were different from the originals.
Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman said why they did this and why the statements changed was unexplained.
The only surviving witness, Sean Reilly, said he had been severely pressurised into changing his original statement and had been physically assaulted by gardaí.
All very Gene Hunt.

There is no justice
There was today and more to come Justice may take years but the big wheel keeps turning and comes around to kick the people who had false reputations built on their failure to have constraint in their powerfull positions and no matter what, and who they hurt to advance their careers no matter who's life they destroyed.:mad::mad:

Justice wasnt really done - the police in question should be in jail it would seem (Mods feel free to edit if this is legally dodgy).

I see Owen Harris was praising the Heavy Gang a few weeks ago. They were "the only thing standing between us and the provos", apparently.

Bit of an obsession of yours eh ? Seem to remember that you questioned the conviction of Mad Mick for killing his fellow soldiers in the Leb. Maybe you should cough up your personal interest ?:p

Eoghan Harris is an idiot. The "heavy gang" had nothing to do with the provos.

I wouldn't mind if Fitzpatrick or Fingleton were in the hands of the heavy gang.
If they had a fatal accident like falling down a flight of stairs or leaning over to fall out of a tiny barred first floor window before they went to trial it would be no loss.

I have no love for the Provos but the Heavy Gang were used to beat confessions out of IRA suspects. They operated very discretely and their presence in the cells of police stations often went unrecorded - that was their alibi. I have a lot of respect for the Gardai and they are far superior to the police in most countries but this was a stain on their otherwise very good record.

It looks to me like you have a problem with this appeal being taken and won, or am I getting the message wrong here?

Doh you should read back in time to the early Eighties there was a galvinize hut in Monaghan that the local Orange order used for meetings. It burned down one night and the Govt. decided it was political so they sent the Heavy Gang up and they picked up the usual suspects and beat the S!!!e out of them they signed confessions admitting they burned the hall. They went to Portlaois on remand and stayed for the guts of a year. In the meantime the Local Orange order put a claim for £1 million claim for damage to their hall. Loyds of London sent in their own investigators and found that the Orange order had destroyed the hall themselves. The sh!t hit the fan and the lads were released. They were political police. Hitler would have been proud.

This wouldn't be the same great Monaghan police force that beat Peter Matthews to death in 1982, would it???
