Bring it on. 500,000 people to sue will grind the country to a halt.

Quick question. Surely they should sue any public representative that hasn`t paid his household charge in a region first ?

The Regulation -
S.I. No. 1/2012
doesn't appear to make any provision for court appearances.
Aren't such things as fines usually a part of a Regulation?

Is it the case that the Council may only get the charge plus interest?
Prosecution is hardly going to be worthwhile if that's the case.

Tax dodgers should be pursued.

All they do is pass the burden to other taxpayers.

Proper order. Too many passengers on the backs of the decent people who pay their way in life.

They paid their tax when they bought the house.
And they also pay the rates when they go shopping as commercial rates are at least 1% of all the items they buy.

That neatly sums up the governmental bureaucrats.

Yes this would be a civil action for debt recovery.
Which the judge could throw out for wasting court time.

Despite being a "Fine Gael" County :D almost one in four people ther have failed to pay the charge and it looks like Mayo County Council have started the ball rolling with the first court cases.

Kudos to Mayo Co Co for taking tax evaders to court.
Anyone who does not pay the household charge is a tax cheat.
This country is on its knees at the moment and everyone should pay what they owe the local authority.

Anyone who doesn't should be reported to the authorities by their law abiding neighbours.

The day of the 'cute hoor' has to come to an end in Ireland.
Cute hoorism got us into our current mess.

Typical Shinner populism. Of course, that doesnt stop them from spouting rubbish.

The debt is due and owing.

What defence will be forwarded by the defaulting parties. Civil disobedience, and/or an unwillingness to pay the charge will not be a defence.

Supposedly in the North you dont have to pay :)
Most in the South don't have to pay this charge either. ;)

Only if you are buying a home.
