How Different Would Ireland Be If FG Had Been The Major Party?

Well we were definitely held back economically because Dev clung on to power for so long!
However, I believe that if Fine Gael (under whatever name) had been the major party of power throughout our history as an independent state, they would have morphed over time into being every bit as corrupt as their devotees claim their major opponents are! Also there is no evidence to suggest that we would not have been a Theocratic state in all but name for much of that time! I think our SW system would not be as generous! I think militant Republicans would have been treated even worse!
If you believe otherwise, please provide evidence!

You are absolutely correct! But I was referring to him not letting the likes of Lemass have a bite of the cherry for an overly long time!

Michael Lowry's old man might have been Taoiseach in the 60s.

FF and FG are two balls in the one nut-sack. Both try to sit in the centre but naturally fall to one side.

I would trust FG more with the economy though.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fail need each other.

When one gets voted out, the other gets voted in. As the two are extremely similar in my opinion, I don't think either worry too much about the other. Apart from scoring political points every now and then, watch the two parties morph into a unit of hatred and contempt for any new organisation. The gates of hell will be let loose on anyone which could potentially threaten the status quo.

B

Boggle

It'd be the exact same.
FF=FG=Lab=Sf=scum. All they care about is who gets to divvy up the spoils.

The only way to change this country is to elect independents who are campaigning on banning the whip and removing the influenece money has on politics because any new party will succumb to the same temptations and the others...

Unfortunately the (?govt?) controlled media will tell you that it would be the end of the world if you actually allowed reason dictate policy instead of brute force bullying.

FF & FG are the same. There wouldn't have been any difference at all, as they're ideologically and morally bankrupt and care only about self enrichment. It's little America they're like the Republicans and Democrats writ small. Its all a bloody media fuelled charade anyway.

I reckon we would still be in the same mess that we are currectly in.

With the exception, that under FG, the gombeens who would have sold us into penury, would have been more refined, more cliquish, and even more pretenscious.

FF had to pause before deciding about bailing out the banks, and screwing the taxpayer. FG would have made the decision even faster.

Whereas ours is more like that other great American institution The Jerry Springer show, i.e. inbreds fighting for the entertainment of the gullible.

Why do you ask for evidence when you provide absolutely none of your own?

Your query also requests opinions based on hypothesis and supposition, so no evidence is possible anyway...

Would the treaty have been dismantled in the 30's?
Would we have maintained neutrality in the '40s?
Would thru have had an equivilant of Lemass in the 60s?

That was proposed at some stage during the insanity of the 'boom'...

Thankfully a bit of sense prevailed and it never happened...

Imagine an Irish/English match every poxy week..?

It wouldn't have lasted long even if it had been tried...
