This explains it all! Not go about your business and respect your betters. petunia

T
oday’s students know TDs are also busy in parliamentary committees considering Bills, meeting and taking onboard the views of each sector of society as well as fulfilling their duties to their constituents. This is thanks to an enlightened initiative of the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission to provide CSPE students and teachers with a classroom workshop that explains how their national parliament works. So, today’s students (and tomorrow’s voters) may be less likely to judge TDs purely by how many times they are seen sitting in the Dáil, despite “the background of lurid headlines” Mr Mooney refers to.
God bless the IT for the shell of a once decent journal it has become.

"as well as fulfilling their duties to their constituents"

Anyone like to flesh this one out? I'll start:-

Meeting developers.

Attending funerals (where often they aren't wanted).

Making representations to various public service bodies to try to obtain favours or bend regulations that they themselves voted into law.

Interfering with Garda Investigations (take a bow, Trevor the Green goodie) or court cases.

Asking the Minister for Justice to waive/reduce fines or for convicted rapists, murderers, thieves to be released from prison.

Making untrue allegations to journalists about political opponents.

......................... I'm sure there's loads more.
