This has just come up on Broadsheet.ie and it makes for an interesting read. Brendan Howlin signed off on hiding politician's expenses from the general public and FOI. It's no wonder we get more and more cynical about TD's.

"On December 17, 2014, journalist Ken Foxe sought from the Houses of the Oireachtas, under FOI, copies of invoices and receipts submitted by 22 TDs and Senators.

Every year the expense claims of 10% of national politicians are randomly audited by Mazars.

It was these politicians Mr Foxe was focusing on for an RTÉ Investigations Unit project, called No Expenses Spared.

On January 16, 2015, this request was refused with the Oireachtas claiming it never physically held the records. It claimed the records passed from the politicians to Mazars."

Wonder if he will like taking orders from Boot Boy Kelly if the latter manages to get back in via an extra train or two on the local line? Thought Howlin has delusions of grandeur occasionally and at least at one stage harboured Looper leadership ambitions?

Never warmed to Howlin myself - far too cloying and a vague sense of Machiavellian deviousness in the air about him but then I am not from Yellowbellyland where he is probably touted and feted as a prince in waiting whose time to plunge in the knife will come so that he can at last seize the opportunity to star as the main character on the stage in front of a fevered crowd.

Disclosures as to how Taxpayers' money is spent is only for the little people and not for the like of Howlin, a small little man with unbelieveable arrogance and a seriously inflated sense of his own importance, indespensability, and infallibility. Like most in the Looper Party he holds a total monopoly on the high moral ground and what is right and wrong!

In 2012 he increased the amount TDs can spend on secretarial and PR services.

Really, he's quite a devious politician.
He is the same little fvcker that was tasked with cleaning up the allowances and saving in the region of €75m. He spent 12 months canvassing for business cases to retain allowances and received 800 for the 1300 or so allowances (or is it 1100?). He didn't get rid of one of them but altered one slightly delivering tiny savings, even tinier than him.

Change...me hole. Remember this folks when you go to the polling station.

Isn't it just as well that people - in huge numbers - voted for parties who promised a new era of openness and transparency in 2011.

FG and Labour. A new way of doing politics (using old tricks).

Mind you, you'd have to wonder what this particular "midget parasite" - charged with overseeing the Dept of PE&R - is doing hiding the expenditure of members of the governing parties.

Here's hoping he's given his P45 on the 26th.

SBP reveals today that councillors demand 40% pay hike, more (unvouched) expenses and pensions (to add to the leaving gratuity they already have!). You really couldn't make this up. they are claiming their workload has increased significantly.

Ken Foxe, in today's Sunday Times reveals that

Sean Barrett's driver was paid 10k in expenses last year, because he drove up from the south-east

Worth reading article from February last year entitled '€100 million in pay and expenses for politicians' again

It cites

The largest payment is reserved for Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett who gets an additional €70,282 on top of his TD’s salary.

His thread and new evidence is a must read.
No wonder politicians are laughing at the public...as the rip off expenses gravy train keeps going full steam ahead...those on board still want to hide it from you.

This thing of unvouched expenses needs to end. And expenditure on vouched expenses need ceilings applied.
