Hope that got your attention...

First off, congratulations to Pearse on the spectacular victory today... but... I have just been looking at the distribution of Mc Brearty's transfers, and after getting almost 50% of the transfers on that count, he is only 2,000 odd votes short of a quota, with Thomas Pringle's vote of 3,763 now going to be transfered....

On current trends, there is every likeliehood that Pearse will pass the quota and be deemed elected on that count.. but I don't want that to happen

I want FG to pass FF on Pringles transfers, and leave Pearse 1 vote shy of the quota... just so I can see O Domhnaill eliminated all on his lonesome..

Am I bad ???

Great result Pearse..

Next step, try to get Finian and Maureen to form a technical group by next Tuesday, and put down a motion of no confidence.. What a maiden speech that would be !!!

Now that got my attention lol.

Despite my absolute hatred of the blueshirts, I agree that it would be absolutely humiliating for this to happen to Zanu-FF.

However I think Pearse will get the bulk of Pringle's transfers.

Hell yes! That would be amazing stuff alright. Would it shame enough of the Labour/FG/Green cabbages into supporting the motion though, or will they all be mysteriously missing come the vote?

Given the title of the thread, I wondered immediately where this could possible be going. I thought this is some gombeen spinning for the Soldiers of Corruption.

But no! It's like something from Red Dwarf "Better than Life". I think you have a very Machiavellian turn of mind, Rock, but it's a great lead up to a possible bombshell maiden speech. Love it!

Pearse Doherty when asked what he thought about being the shortest TD in history said "Well I am 6'3'' so its unlikely that I'll be the shortest" :)

I'll be happy just to hear Pearse getting the quota.

I am disgusted by the number of voters still willing to give FF a first preference in DSW.

Am I bad ???I agree with your thesis, having canvassed for Thomas Pringle.i'm proud of the Donegal electorate who waited in the long grass and gave the FF,errs a trouncing at the ballot box.Roll on the GE.

I sort of understand the transfer thing, but being from the USA, could someone explain in depth so I can fully comprehend how it works?

Who says that Sinn Féin doesn't get transfers. The old bile that has been trundled out at every election doesn't seem to be working anymore. My protestant FG relatives gave Pearse a transfer mainly because they know him and know he is a decent person and sincere. My Sinn Féin relatives also gave transfers to FG and Labour. The times are a changing.

Many of the voters up here are steeped in civil war attitudes and politics. It is changing slowly but I do think FF gets the vote because of historical and not logical reasons. However some local FF people in Donegal are decent folk and it is a shame for them that the party is now held in such low repute.

We have a transferable vote system, in which you can give a preference vote to as many or all of the candidates on the ballot paper.. so, lets assume you have 6 candidates, a,b,c,d,e and f..

You vote 1-2-3-4 for a-d and stop, giving e and f no vote

After the first count, a, though you have given him your first preference, finishes bottom. All of a's votes are then rechecked again, and now b is given your vote, because he was your next preference.. and so on

arrrgghhh ... looks like he won't get the quota, but will still be deemed elected because the no. of non transferables will make him uncatchable... bah humbug

But great result again.. well done Pearse

Who would have imagined a Shinner would have secured more votes, than FF and FG combined ???

It has nothing to do with the non-transferables. Even if he is short of the quota he will be deemed elected because the votes of the remaining two candidates combined cannot catch him ergo no point in carrying on the count. So no glimpse at any FF/FG transfer pattern.

Well done Mr. D.. No fan of your party, but a well deserved victory for your court challenge, and general passion about core issues.

Can't help but notice that one in five voters still gave their first preference to FF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Can someone please post this fact seperately, and ask earnestly, what the hell is wrong with this country?????????
