The death has been reported of Mr Idowu Olafimihan

IIRC he was one of 3 African candidates who stood in the Locals in Dublin West back in 2009

- though none were elected.

He 'stood unsuccessfully in Dublin’s Mulhuddart constituency, died after a sudden illness in Nigeria’s commercial city of Lagos in the early hours of Wednesday 16 August.

Olafimihan has recently returned to Nigeria to run for office under the ruling All Progressive Party (APC). ‘Valid ID’, as he was popularly known, was an aspirant in the 2017 APC chairmanship election for the Mushin Local Government in Lagos State.'
Tributes paid to late Fianna Fáil local election candidate Idowu Olafimihan - Metro Eireann

Its a wonder though that FF here in Dublin West never put out a statement on one of their ex Members dying so suddenly.

BTW this man has a wife and kids so lets keep this respectful please....

RIP

I can't help but wonder did he claim asylum on arriving in Ireland? If so then how was he able to return so often to the country he fled, how was he able to stand for election in that same country?

Probably went back to Nigeria with horror stories about the rampant corruption in Ireland.

RIP all the same.

I remember him alright, unfortunate timing to be jumping on FF bandwagon but he gave it a shot, fair play to him and RIP

Astonished to see the topic survive 30 mins without the hyenas arriving.
Maybe the PEGIDA Ard fheis is on in some bus shelter or portakabin

Maybe he went back to claim political asylum from Ireland? Funny how asylum claimants can't seem to get 'home' quickly enough having gained a status in the West!

It was a cluttered field all right that year

They would have been better running 1 candidate between them

IIRC one of them was accused of making out that if people voted for them

- then Irish Citizenship could be arranged

Also Kieran Dennison tried to pull the plug on the FG one?

Anyone else remember that Spat?

You know absolutely nothing about how he got to Ireland, how he remained and why and under what circumstances he returned to Nigeria.

Ireland, a great place to practice the Nigerian art of scamming. If ye haven't made the RTE news-team you need the Advanced Scammer Course in Lagos. Flights HOME and accommodation for the entire family free with every course purchased. See ETB Blanchardstown Harvey for assistance with course costs.
