When it comes to forming the next government and Fine Gael and Labour do the expected and form a coalition, what will happen if Fine Gael aren't the largest party and Kenny won't be Taoiseach. Maybe Kenny could be Minister for Foreign Affairs? He is the spokesman for Northern Ireland for Fine Gael and it was hinted if he was ousted in the leadership challenge in the summer he could stay on in Foreign Affairs in a frontbench under Bruton.

People often say Kenny is a likeable guy in private, maybe that quality would make him a good Foreign Affairs minister.

I think wild card Varadkar offered him that on RTE before heave, along with 3 a.m phone call scenario (and it was not Cowen binging). Does anyone seriously that Taoiseach Baby Bruton is a runner ? Serious.

I don't think FG will get a different leader before the new election plus it would be unfair to Kenny, to lead FG into the next election with them emerging as largest party and not be Taoiseach after being leader of FG for 10 years.

IF FG aren't the largest party after the next election then EK will resign and will not be in cabinet. IF FG are the largest party after the next election but LAB get second and decide to go in with FF (LAB taoiseach etc) then EK will resign and will be a backbencher.

I think a government composed as follows would have a lot of credibility with the public.

Taoiseach: Eamon Gilmore
Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs: Enda Kenny
Minister for Finance: Ruairi Quinn
Minister for Enterprise/Job Creation: Richard Bruton

I think Kenny would be good in a new department responsible for overhauling our political system, and introducing a code of ethics accross the Oireactas. One thing our Political system needs is a complete overhaul and Kenny although seen as wooden, is very well liked accross all parties and would be excellent at instilling new confidence into our political system - which is very badly needed

There will be people beyond the current members of the Dáil looking for senior cabinet positions after the next election. The likes of Alex White and, in particular, Eugene Regan.

If Kenny isn't the next Taoiseach any job he gets will still be a promotion. After all he is the longest serving TD in the dail and has only been a Minister for Tourism so the only way is up..

As the longest serving TD in the Dail I think Kenny would be possibly the worst choice for this type of post. You need somebody in that role who hasn't been institutionalised. A first terrm TD is required for this role, not the Dail grand dad

He could be "official handyman" in which case he gets to form a Cabinet, one specially delivered by IKEA.

If Kenny isn't Taoiseach he won't be FG leader. It won't a Richard Mulcahy situation where he leads the biggest party but isn't Taoiseach.

If Kenny isn't FG leader, then there is no reason whatsoever to appoint him to government. He doesn't have a history of ministerial experience. He doesn't have known experience in any area. He's "yesterday's man".

Regan is not standing and White will just be a newcomer assuming he is elected.

Given the amount of sh1t bequeath to the next Government by this shower of incompetents, Kenny and everyone else are probably gonna spend time in the revolving role of Minister for Hardship

Kenny does have a history of ministerial experience even if it was quite short. He was minister of state for the departments of Education and Labour from 1986-1987. He was Minister of Tourism and Trade from 1994-1997. That's better than no ministerial experience at all.

What will be Biffo's role in next Dail.He wont be Taoiseach or leader of FF even though he will be a TD for one term at least. I suspect he will be patron of the pubs carted around for life by a garda driver and state merc ,a director of Bord Na Mona, Coillte , Ryanair maybe.

Can someone give me a logical reason (apart from ability to deliver soundbites) that would show that Gilmore would be a better Taoiseach than Kenny???

There are matters that should rank higher in choice of Taoiseach than 'It would be unfair to Kenny.'

Unless FG come clean in the very near future about whether, or not, they will go into government with FF after the next election and whether, or not, they intend to initiate a full and unconditional banking investigation once they get into government, conducted by the Gardai, then Enda Kenny or anybody else in FG need bother their little heads about what role they might play in the next government.

The Irish people have had to learn the hard way how to spot liars and spoofers and they most certainly will not let it happen again.
If FG are not aware of this fact, then they are in for the surprise of their life.
