If you could make one wish for political reform in Ireland, what would it be?

Imagine, if you will, you rub a bottle and an anorak wearing genie pops out and offers you one wish - but it had to be restricted to Irish political reform and it had to be today - what would you wish for?

Make everyone self assessed ..........

Most people arent actually aware of the amounts of tax they pay ...its an irrelevant figure on the payslip ....occasionally read and cause for exasperation ...but never REALLY registering

Ask people to write a cheque or send a direct debit for that amount once a year and suddenly the waste of taxpayers money would become a far more real and tangible personal concern

Regain control of the rogue Courts. Everything wrong with this country begins there. The high cost of everything (fees + awards), the lack of freedom of speech (defamation + prejudice), the endless time it takes to do anything (injunctions, appeals, judicial reviews) ...

Certainly be a good place to start .....even the Troika recognised that ....and powerful cross party political resistance to legal reform is evidence that this is where much power resides

It's funny how the Troika's demand for reform of the legal system fell on deaf ears - FG going to the brink of annihilation to try to implement water charges, the hospitals and housing are in a jock because of enforced austerity....but the legal system remained unscathed throughout the worst years of austerity and remain the bulwark against any meaningful reform as long as Johnny Deep-Pockets can get things dragged out in the courts for as long as he needs.

End pension apartheid by abolishing public/private sector pensions differentiation with one pension type for all.
Personal ownership of pensions based on contributions over each persons lifetime of work. More you contribute the bigger the pension. No contribution, no pension.

A lot of our political problems would be solved if the multiseat constituencies were abolished.
