French police have searched the Paris apartment of IMF chief Christine Lagarde, as they investigate her role in awarding financial compensation to businessman Bernard Tapie in 2008.
Mr Tapie was a supporter of ex-President Nicolas Sarkozy.

BBC News - IMF head Lagarde's flat searched in Bernard Tapie probe

Lagarde referred Mr Tapie long-running's dispute with bank Credit Lyonnais to a 3rd Party for arbitration.

The arbitration took place in 2007 after the case was initiated back in 1993.

The arbitrators awarded him 400m euros & critics claimed that Lagarde abused her authority :shock2:

What is going on in Big Finance?

As Mr T was a big supporter of Nicholas Sarkozy - could this cause anti-Sarko ripples within the UMP?

Could it also boost Hollande &/or Marine Le Pen?

Will Sarko now pull out of the running?

It is certainly turning out to be one hell of a soap opera.

Tapie's famously bent as a 3 Franc note (see his Marseille antics). This seems to be following the typical French Corruption run, president gets in amidst allegations of naughtiness, stays in for year, then when he goes the new (opposing) president relaunches the investigation.

It's fully warranted here though. LaGarde's intervention back in 07 was pretty hard to buy. I'm not sure what documented evidence people think are going to be kept however.

Well the one thing we know they won't find is any box of tax records and receipts. Her salary is tax-free.

Ms Lagarde seems to be a walking IFSC. Where tax is concerned she turned a corner when she was appointed at the IMF.

Must be hard arguing for equitable tax regimes and a level playing field when you don't pay any tax at all yourself.

But then again that is also what happens in the IFSC. It is no wonder she is checking her nose in the picture in the OP. Checking for growth spurts.

Lagarde's ex boss in a spot of trouble tonight.

Nicolas Sarkozy has been charged with taking financial advantage of elderly L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, his lawyer said.He is accused of accepting envelopes stuffed with cash from France's richest woman to illegally finance his 2007 election campaign.

International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s Director, Christine Lagarde was questioned on 23 May regarding an alleged €400 million payout to jailed businessman Bernard Tapie when she was serving as France's finance minister in 2007. Prosecutors will be responsible to decide whether Lagarde should be charged or not.
