So Liam Doran wants us all to know that we can't afford as many nurses as they can in the UK

Staffing levels of nurses in Republic 'below' UK - RTÉ News

The survey seems to leave that linger as a vague threat to our safety but doesn't suggest how he, as a leader of the IMO, will pull a rabbit out of the hat that will allow the country, crippled by excessive public expenditure AND bank bailouts and borrowing 1 in 4 euro his members receive in pay, achieve the same staffing levels.

Nor does it compare the level of core pay and absenteeism between the two services - odd that.

What is the point of doing and publishing the survey - what does the IMO hpe to achieve?

It's not up to Mr Doran to "pull a rabbit out of the hat that will allow the country, crippled by excessive public expenditure AND bank bailouts and borrowing 1 in 4 euro his members receive in pay, achieve the same staffing levels" is it. That's governments job surely?

I have a life.
...As said on MI this morning, why are there 80 HR staff at a certain hospital which in the real world would be representative of a 10,000 workforce....but thats endemic throughout the system....
Said it before will say it again, the country is full of grads from accounting colleges etc, instead of an internship get groups of them together in Nama offices all over the country and give them the task of independently looking for 'waste'. These indo groups under the guide / mentoring by a recently unemployed business person will soon have the task at hand.

I mean they would be gainfully employed, getting real experience and saving the country money. They would be the new save savvy civil servants. Start it young and the seeds will grow. The old dinosaurs will retire and the dept's in each catagory will be served by a new breed of public project worker that gives service and has none of the old baggage. This new breed will take over all the old gov dept's such as car tax etc.

Make change look to the future..

It is not an IMO survey.

The INMO was against Croke Park and this is a classic take on the "I told you so" logic. Voluntary redundancies meant that front line numbers were cut while the (hugely) overstaffed HSE staff were not cut proportionally. The number of people in HR and payroll in the Health service is nothing short of scandalous but don't expect Reilly to get around to sorting it, anytime soon.

The nurses have a point and if there's to be a CP2, this should be top of the agenda.
