Interesting debate between Gay Mitchell and Paul Murphy in the Parliament today

I don't think I've every seen two Irish MEPs go at eachother in the parliament. Usually the FG, FF and Lab MEPs (and "independent" Marian Harkin) are all singing off the same hymn sheet. Nice to see a bit of a shake up

Such an angry chap, and to think that a handful of people voted for him to become head of state!

Thank Skyfairies everywhere (or nowhere - depending on your outlook) that the Irish people had the good sense to see right through Gay Mitchell.

Now, if only the people of Dublin could do the same.

For all his flaws, Mitchell is excellent when he speaks on the hypocrisy of "socialism". He tore poor Nessa Childers to shreds in a debate against her on the "EU Parliament Report" on RTE a couple of weeks ago.

I read a piece somewhere once where he said that his views on socialism were formed in his youth, when the richest person in his (very poor) neighbourhood was the local "socialist" Labour party TD.

Sure Gay Mitchell, for all his rantings on socialism, is a socialist himself. Not the good kind you understand - the kind that socialises billions upon billions of gambling losses and then pontificates about the need for a decreasing pool of working people to pay for him and them.

He needs to get a life and get real. I've had more than enough of my fill of Irish politicans who speak out of both sides of their mouths.

I'm far closer to Gay Mitchell than Paul Murphy politically.

But Murphy had the measure of Gay in that debate.

Same salary as every other MEP, just like Paul Murphy.

With the caveat that Murphy pays part of his salary into a Socialist Party slush-fund to be used at their whim.

Can you imagine the faux outrage if the Fine Gael MEPs did this, with taxpayers money etc etc?
