Ireland should boycott Tourism Committee Conference in Israel

The annual OECD Tourism Committee Conference is being held on October 20-22nd in Jerusalem. An Israeli Minister is claiming the conference legitimises Israel's annexation of East Jerusalem despite UNSC Resolutions declaring the 1982 annexation as "null and void". The British, Spanish and Turkish delegations have already pulled out and the OECD is warning the conference may be cancelled. Tourism Minister Mary Hanafin has failed to say whether she's going or not.

The Irish govt has been silent on this affair. Write to Cowen, Micheal Martin, Mary Hanafin and Paul Murray (Ireland's OECD delegate) to demand an Irish boycott. The BDS Campaign demands a boycott of this Zionist propaganda exercise and Ireland should play its part in it. As a former victim of colonial oppression, Ireland should support Palestine because their cause was ours in times past, while that of the Zionist regime is that of Cromwellian state-terrorism with fascist ethnic-cleansing.
Haaretz said:
Angel Gurria, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), sent a harsh letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warning that due to comments made by Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov (Yisrael Beitenu), the decision to hold a tourism conference in Jerusalem could be hindered.
Misezhnikov said in an interview with Haaretz on Monday that although some countries have cancelled their participation in the OECD conference to be held in Jerusalem later this month, the fact that most countries have not cancelled their participation is a show of support for Israel's territorial claims in Jerusalem
...The OECD plans to hold its biannual tourism conference on October 20-22 in Jerusalem. According to Misezhnikov, Britain and Spain have said they will not send delegates to the conference because it was going to be held in Jerusalem.
Misezhnikov told Haaretz, "the conference - with the participation of 21 ministers, deputy ministers and organization heads - will take place as planned in Jerusalem. This will be a declaration of intent and a seal of approval on the fact that we have a state whose recognized capital is Jerusalem."

Jews ‘stealing Arab land' is an inversion of reality. Jews in 10 Arab countries were stripped of their rights and dispossessed of their property. Estimates that Jews in Arab countries lost many more billions of assets as the Palestinians, and four times as much land as the size of Israel itself.

Both Palestinian and Jewish refugees should be compensated either financially or with their old properties.

Name the 10 Arab countries, so when they hold tourism conferences we'll know to boycott those too!

If Iraq scheduled it for Kuwait in 1989 or Russia did it in Ossetia there would be similar issues. It's not the fact that the country want to hold a conference, it's that they want to hold a conference at a specific location to legitimise an annexation viewed as illegal by the rest of the world.

And it's a reasonable statement to make that many of the people who are complaining about this would be complaining if it were held in Haifa as well, but that doesn't change the fact that those complaints have merits.

The countries that have pulled out are correct to do so. We should follow them.

Another morning, another anti-Israel screed on p.ie. Sigh.

At least be honest about the reason for the British absence. From the article:

The British Embassy said in response:

"The U.K. won't be attending this conference, but it is entirely false to suggest that this is due to a boycott of for political reasons. The U.K.'s opposition to boycotts against Israel is well known. The UK will actually be chairing a session at the OECD's international data protection and privacy commission later this month in Jerusalem. The only reason there's no U.K. representation at the tourism seminar is because that right delegates simply weren't available."

Are you morons going to lie on the road to stop busloads of elderly Catholic parishoners from heading off for pilgrimages to the Holy Land?

Yeah right.

Sounds a bit like how, when a politician pulls out of an anticipated 'awkward' meeting with someone, they'll always claim a 'scheduling conflict'. It's hard to imagine that the 'right delegates' - whatever that means - could not have been made available, or someone sent in their place, if the UK had wanted a presence at the conference. Sounds like they are choosing a fence-sitting option which won't unduly p1ss anyone off.

There is a difference between what govts do and what private-citzens do. By going to Jerusalem the govt would be conferring recognition of the annexation of East Jerusalem and of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel - which is not internationally recognised.

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel - always has been.

And you've got the computer generated images to prove it!

I guess that settles the whole thing, then.

It belonged to the Amorites before the Zionists stole it from them. Even the Jewish sources suggest the Jews were not the first inhabitants of Jerusalem. There was no Jewish-majority in Jerusalem in the 2nd-19th centuries. If you go down this road the Whites will have to return their lands to the American Indians, and the Germans will have to return Germany to descendants of the former Celts, and Whites in Latin America will have to return lands to the descendants of Mayans and Aztecs etc. In short: a recipe for WW3.

The Ark of The Covenant will be placed inside it.

When the Temple is rebuilt and the Ark returns to the Holy of Holies, Israel will never be defeated again.

The Ark will destroy the enemies of Israel.

The true ownership of the city's irrelevant in this matter. It's always going to be within the eye of the beholder, regardless of what courts or the UN says.

It's not regarded as legally annexed territory by the international community, so the international community shouldn't act as if it is. It's good to see they're not.

South Africa just announced they're out as well: SA skips Israel tourism conference: News24: South Africa: Politics
