Fossil Fuel Subsidies Award Winners Revealed

This years CAN (Climate Action Network Europe) awards go to:

1. Poland received a gold medal in the Deadly Funding category for misusing EU funds to burn coal
2. Norwaay wins in the Dirty Tax Gift category for using taxpayers’ money to support arctic oil exploration
3. Ireland wins Sneaky Special Treatment to peat-burning

All Irish should feel proud right now, the first place! and what a category

Fossil Fuel Subsidies Award Winners Revealed

The awards raise attention to the different ways that European governments use tax payers' money to fuel climate change through burning more fossil fuels. Fossil fuel subsidies represent an economic dead-end, especially in times of scarce public resources and in the light of investments required to ensure the clean energy transition.

"The peatlands are Ireland's Amazon and we simply have to stop subsidizing their destruction. Burning peat produces just 9% of our electricity but 22% of our climate pollution from power generation. The Government needs to sit down with the company, the unions, the communities and ourselves right now to plan a rapid and just transition to a more sustainable future."

Ha! That's a good one!

"For every £1 users spent on green heating systems, they got £1.60 in subsidies"
" in one instance a farmer stood to make £1 million over the 20-year term of the scheme for heating an empty shed. "

Who cares?

Grow a pair.

This sort of "shame" and "what will the neighbours think" attitude got young women and girls thrown into laundries.

I'd like to nominate Mung the Moron MEP to collect the award on our behalf.

Given his moronic support for turf harvesting in SACs, he's the ideal man to pick up the trophy.
And where are you leaving that walking billboard for dental hygene Fitzmaurice?

I try very hard not to think of Michael Fitzmaurice. He gives me nightmares.

Does that come with a monetary award and do we all get a cut or do we have to give it to some bank ?

Comes off the national debt I'd imagine.

Peat burning with palm oil husks shipped all the way from indonesia on top.

Bord na Móna to stop importing palm kernel shells over concerns

You couldn't make it up - but you're paying for it.
hypocrisy

We’re proud to share our latest work for Bord na Móna, one of Ireland’s most iconic brands and one of the world’s most innovative companies in the field of sustainability.

Our latest campaign, created in collaboration with Piranha Bar, highlights the diverse and groundbreaking ways that Bord na Móna generates renewable energy.

It’s a modern expression of an equally modern company, as we continue to change perceptions and reposition the brand in the minds of Irish consumers.

hypocrisy

The sort of thing that turned me against greenery - filling out endless forms for stuff that might qualify, and if you burn it / use it / lay it, some taxpayer somewhere will give you a grant.

Like the Arlene Foster scheme, with indonesian husk instead of wood pellets. Both are wrong but nobody is calling it.

If climate change is a problem, then ban cars and jets and see how we get on. Probably Trump is against Paris because the drop for the USA will be so steep - 25% off emissions by 2025? or 2020? By 2040 might be workable.
