Irish kids are spending an excessive amount of time doing stuff relative to their peers elsewhere, according to a new survey.

Home » Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance

Unsurprisingly former Yugoslavian basket case Slovenia, and inflation ridden Zimbabwe languish at the top, split only by New Zealand, where kids are clearly too frightened to sit at home playing Clash of Clans in case the ceiling falls on their heads, and are herded out to perform the Haka.

Meanwhile Scotland Wales and England show us the glorious post-Brexit sedentary lifestyle that await us once we come to our senses, where the only time we will have to get off the couch is to do fantastic trade deals with the rest of the world.

In short, we got a D. Most of the 37 other countries did worse.

Deserving so of the ultimate Irish accolade; It could have been worse.

Lack of proper infrastructure. Kids can't cycle to school any more, there's a lack of proper cycling lanes--heck, it's hardly safe for them to walk --if there's even a footpath in some areas..

If it wasn't for the GAA, we'd be way worse.
Perhaps... although it's also possible we'd excel at other sports a lot more... as the GAA hoovers up a lot of potential...

Then again... perhaps not... perhaps the GAA gets sport into the blood which broadens horizons... plus we don't invest in sport in Ireland so if the GAA wasn't around we probably would be doing a lot worse...

95% parents fault.

Of course most will blame the government.

Ice hockey, skiing, stuff like that...
We could do with more rugby and soccer clubs.

Also more indoor facilities for tennis, volleyball, basketball etc

We dont have enough of them.

Love the ambiguous title of the thread! :D

Get 'em young like everything and parents need to take the lead by dragging them out.

Facilities are the key, even for the field sports. We need a raft of 3/4 size indoor pitches and replace a lot of grass pitches with all weather synthetic surfaces. Our winters aren't too cold to play outdoors, but the grass can't take it.
