Repeat the mantra - we can't tax the rich because they will pack their bags and leave - just bend over and take it up the rear-end.

A number of years ago the government passed a measure to impose a levy on tax exiles. There are currently almost 4,000 tax exiles - in 2017 a total of 9 - get that - 9 - paid the levy. The government has refused to imposed the levy measure that they themselves passed. Collecting this levy alone could potentially raise €750million a year - more than enough for pay restoration and pay parity across the entire public service and still have plenty left over (for example to build thousands of units of social housing).
But are'nt the public sector giving it to us up the rear end also?

The trade union leadership are highly paid unelected bureaucrats who are completely inter-twined with the political establishment in this country through social partnership over the past 30+ years.

The Socialist Party campaigns for the election of all full-time trade union officials and for those officials to be paid the wage of the people they are elected to represent.
We heard that one before too.

Lookit, why not come out and say your followers just want complete breakdown of established moda operandi and turn this state into a Venuzuela.

That’s what you want, when do you want it ,now.

When will you get it, never.....ever....

Fair enough , we're agreed on that.

I'm not really seeing the attraction of imposing high taxes on " the rich" to give even higher salaries to well paid public servants however. All that is likely to do is raise further the cost of living for everybody.

Why would I want to turn Ireland into a country with a populist bureaucrat regime where the economy is controlled by oligarchs and the US cracks the whip at every opportunity?

Hang on a minute - naw - still don't want that.

Many are, look at Leo's salary compared to leaders of other small EU countries. Same equally applies to senior department heads in the civil service and works its way down.

When we pay unsustainable salaries a high cost of living is inevitable,. Giving payrises generally just means more debt on overpriced houses here!! Join the dots.

Again i dont see any benefit of taxing people more to raise public sector salaries for most of us. Obviously given u work in the public sector you disagree.

Ruth Coppinger on Newstalk:-

'All workers should get a raise'.

If necessary, there should be strikes all round,
to beat the band.

There's 'plenty of money' to pay them ( from the magic
money tree, no doubt )

Tax, Tax, Tax....

That's the Socialists, for ya!! :rolleyes2:

WELL PAID?
More like vastly overpaid and overpensioned with gold plated pensions for the top half.

INEQUALITY
Capitalism and the market economies always have big inequalities of wealth. That's because rich business owners need a combination of skills to succeed. Any one skill such as logical ability may be fairly common but a combination of skills such as management ability, financial and technical skills is rare. One thing that reduced inequality of wealth was home ownership of up to two thirds of the population.

Hard lefties may realise this but keep harping on the inequality of wealth to stir up envy and hopefully convert envy to leftie votes.

The hard lefties' envy, jealousy and Irish begrudgery results in diseases from stress and running facial sores!
