This story seems to get perfunctory coverage, and what there is, is of a salacious and prurient nature. Most people seemed to have missed the big picture.

Irishman gets three months in jail for sex with woman in back of Dubai taxi - National News - Independent.ie

The defence such as it was is that McRedmond had a row with the taxi-driver and he made a malicious accusation as a result. What is not mentioned in any article on the case, and any other article on any other similar case, of which there are plenty, is just how islamic jurisprudence works. In any islamic court the testimony of a muslim will always outweigh that of an infidel. In fact in this case it was the word of the taxi driver against 2 unbelievers yet the judges accepted his word despite contradictions in his testimony. It really is a wretched part of the world

If it is the case that muslim testimony explicitly outweighs the testimony of a foreigner then that is only making explicit what pertains in every other country in the world. As soon as you cross the border out of your own country the legal deck is invariably stacked against you.

There's been loads of cases like this in Dubai with its retard laws. This couple (who should have just gotten a room), should be fined maybe, not jailed. Don't give me guff about respecting Islam or any of that mallarkey. I'll respect 'em when they stop living in the stone age, "In 2010, another British couple were sentenced to a month in jail and fined for kissing on the mouth in a restaurant in Dubai" (from the same article).

I didn't follow this case....so were they having sex, kissing or what? Why is he the only one in prison....why wasn't the girl jailed?

What an idiot. Another story involving a Brit and sex in Dubai this time with an Irish accomplice. Perhaps if people handled themselves with a little more respect and decorum in their home countries, then they wouldn't get into trouble in somebody else s country.

If it even happened, there should be a fine. An Irish citizen is being unjustly detained.

Why. I would have no problem seeing somebody imprisoned for that in Ireland. As a society we share this country and should respect eachother enough to engage in sexual intercourse in the privacy of our own homes or a hotel at least. Fair play to Dubai for taking no bull************************ from anybody.

They do things different there. A Saudi driver crashed into a stationary car driven by an Englishman. The case was dismissed because the judge ruled that if the Englishman had not been in the country the accident wouldn't have happened.

My bollox pal, don't wave your bell-end around in those parts in public.

Only a total gimp would do that.

wait till you get to the frikken hotel
again if it happened, it doesn't deserve imprisonment. It is a draconian punishment of Irish citizen, you should be concerned.

So you want an Irish national to rot in an arab jail for a minor offence.
