Russia Dagestan shooting: Five women killed in attack on churchgoers

IS may have claimed it, but as yet has provided no evidence to back up their claim

The gunman used a hunting rifle, opening fire on worshippers leaving a service during celebrations for Maslenitsa - a traditional pre-Lent festival, Russian media report.

Four women were killed at the scene, and another woman died later in a hospital.

Russian news outlet RBK Daily quoted an Orthodox priest as saying the attack took place immediately following the afternoon service.

"We had finished the mass and were beginning to leave the church. A bearded man ran towards the church shouting 'Allahu Akbar' (God is greatest) and killed four people," the priest said.
"He was carrying a rifle and a knife," he added.

IS later said - through its information wing Amaq - that one of its "soldiers" had carried out the attack.
However, it provided no evidence to back up its claims.

IS made the claim in the name of its so-called "Caucasus Province", the last official branch set up by the group in 2015.

Awful for the victims and their families. And as with Chechnya, Dagestan does not sound like somewhere that would be easy to pacify if IS made serious inroads.

You are really losing control of your prejudices, Catalpast.

It's probably just as well that you've stopped doing your once-interesting Irish history OPs - else we'd be reading mad sh1te about how the actions of Protestant Muslim asylum seekers in Walkinstown lost us the battle of Kinsale.

Speaking as someone with some knowledge of the North Caucasus, it would be useful to think of this as being basically a sectarian killing/stunt exactly as you'd see during the Troubles in NI.

Not a 100% perfect analogy, but very useful nonetheless.

Jaysiz, lad...if you paid a hundredth as much attention to Cruimh's posts as you do to the latest non-national count at Blanch shopping centre, you'd realize how misguided that post is.

ISIS are facing a credibility crisis.

So they go out and murder people.

The entire belief system requires scrutiny. It is the only way to end this madness.

Not sure though if the powers that be want to end the madness.

It doesn't matter one iota whether the outrage was perpetrated in the name of IS. What matters is that it was carried out against non-muslims in the name of Islam. No doubt Hitchcock will be along shortly to engage in his usual apologetics.

Is there any religion Islam can peacefully co-exist with ?
It cannot even exist peacefully with Islam, as evidenced by the various factions in Syria all trying to jump over one another to be the "true" expression of a belief system built on plagiarism and fibs.
