Because of the recent defection of Cllr. Leonard Hatrick to Labour I went to electionsireland.org to have a look at what how strong a Councillor he is. Accourding to Electionsireland he wasn't even elected in 2004!

http://www.electionsireland.org/counts. ... L&cons=277

Has anyone else seen such inaccuracies on the site before?

No it's a decent guide, but there are loads of inaccuracies. One inaccuracies I recently came across was that according to it Sean MacBride was elected a TD for Clann na Tamlann in a by-election in 1947 rather then Clann na Polbachta.

I have always found them to be very accurate. But yeh, email them if you see a mistake. I mailed them last year and it was updated fairly quickly.

It has him elected to Ardee town council but not elected to Louth CC.

He must be only a Town Cllr

I disagree that there are "loads of inaccuracies". It's generally excellent.

there was no other PD elected to the council in 2004, so how would he be a co-option?

I've found it to be quite accurate overall, but with obvious mistakes and omission here and there. But they're very obliging about correcting things if you point it out to them by email.

All I can say is that it is a remarkably informative site. The hosts deserve a great deal of credit. (Though I, too, puzzled over McBride being in CnaT! I have to admit that it is hard for me to complain about "inaccuracies", as this site is, for me, a primary source of knowledge to begin with.)

What I especially love about it is how easily readable all the information is.

I have just one request.

Could they get "Count Details" for more of elections into the data base? They have the early elections and the more recent ones -- plus a few by-elections -- searchable by count -- but not much in between, unless that has changed in the last month.

Especially for the early years of the PDs, the breakdown of transfers would be interesting to see.

Leonard Hatrick has never been a County Councillor. He has been a Town Coucillor in Ardee since 1999. With ElectionsIreland.org, always click on the candidate name to see their electoral history. For Leonard Hatrick: http://electionsireland.org/candidate.cfm?id=625

We do our best to keep ElectionsIreland.org as accurate and up to date as possible, but resources are limited. I try to respond to notification of errors as soon as I am able, and will add missing results for historical elections on request if I have them.

We could wait until the site was completely accurate and totally comprehensive before launching it, but then it would probably never see the light of day! I believe it is better to offer the site as it is, as it seems to have been of some use and interest to people over the years it has been online.

We always welcome comments, corrections, questions and suggestions, and every page of the site invites feedback. We just ask people to be aware that ElectionsIreland.org is a hobby site.

It is a great site and a great resource, so well done and I see you corrected the mistake with Sean MacBride that I highlighted in my previous post.

I've always found it to be pretty accurate. I used to deal a fair bit with the main guy behind it and he always seemed quite honest and diligent, if there's a mistake I'm sure they'd love to have it pointed out to them.

The site is an excellent service and puts in the pale those of organisations who get paid to update and maintain such things (and who often hide their works once the election is over.) I've said it before just because it's on the internet doesn't make it true. If you come across any errors it is better to give folks the chance to be aware of it instead of tarring and feathering them from the get go.

I've looked for the old results in particular the 1991 locals and even getting them from the offices of the state in hardcopy is a problem. The DoE don't appear to have them to hand.

According to the site Cllr Liam Kelly (of marching powder fame) first ran for election in Naas electoral area before relocating and being succesfully elected to Dublin City Council in 2004..

In actual fact the Liam Kelly who ran for Naas LEA in 1999 is still very much rooted in Kildare (Kill to be precise), is a stalwart of his local GAA and FF organisations, in fact I manned the national collection with him last Sunday. The white line he's most familar with is the 65 yard one!

They do share the same name though and they are both FF. I must mail the site people and point out the error.

There are some small errors all right, as there would be in any website of its size (I dont think people realise the actual depth of information available)

It's top class

(and I must change my picture on it, lol)

You're concerned about your picture, for the Seanad they changed the default for me from the more presentable shirt and tie to my palace top one! Still can't complain, it's better than a more recent image would be.

I've separated the two Liam Kellys on ElectionsIreland.org:
http://electionsireland.org/candidate.cfm?ID=9145

Please contact me directly using the feedback link at the foot of every page on the ElectionsIreland.org website if you spot any errors. I try to correct stuff as soon as possible.

I'm aware that there are still many candidates with the same name who are combined. However, this is preferable to having multiple entries for the same candidate. It isn't always easy to be sure when to split up entries - candidates do move area and party from time to time.

The feedback from visitors to the site with local or historical knowledge is invaluable and greatly appreciated. I wish I had a well staffed research department working for me, but alas, 'tis only I! (And I have to earn a living elsewhere.)
