i don't think they suggested it was power grab by the Dail but by the government (who are members of the Dail)
Absolutely.

The same government that reduced the number of TDs and local authorities, got us to allow judges pay to be reliant on ministerial whim and attempted to persuade us to abandon all our constitutional rights to a government controlled Star Chamber.

Members of the patriarchy complain because only approximately 80% of the Dail are men. It used to be over 95%.

The talking shop for the cronies of the insiders in academia and media that is the Seanad was retained because media and academia pulled out all the stops to keep it at referendum time.

I agree with what Niall Boylan said about this on TV3 last night. About the row over "misogny" in the Senate, because Senator Buttimer has the 'temerity' to use the words "you're asserting yourself". The idea that those words are misogynistic is ludicrous. SF in danger of turning into a cultural-grievance society like the US Democratic party.

Ridiculous alright , the panel on TV3 was also ridiculous , none of them thought Butimers's comments were misogynistic but the three females thought that was irrelevant and that if a woman feels she is been spoken down to or patronized then she has a right to call someone misogynist regardless of what he actually said , it is what she feels is important not what was actually said according to them.

If that is the case then Buttimer if he was watching should have texted in that he feels their assertion of him been patronizing is a homophobic attack on him by them. And see how they like labels been thrown around here there and everywhere for no reason.

A hex on all those morons who voted to keep this chamber.

Senate was briefly suspended because one member disagreed with the other on an issue.

And predictable the female member rushed straight to the misogyny card in a ridiculous attempt to claim sexism.

And we get Bacik and O'Riordain proposing bills to undermine the citizenship referendum. Glad to say, I voted for abolition.

Interesting point.

The London media scoffed at the Skibereen Eagle in the same way as they scoffed at the people of Skibereen when they were dying of hunger during the famine.

The insiders always have contempt for those they regard as the lower orders.

This thread of abolishing Seanad Eireann could be put to sleep, it won't happen.
Especially if we have hypocrite's sitting in the place collecting wages after wanting the house abolished.
Sickening people, using Seanad Eireann to keep their political careers alive after loosing their Dail seats.

The insiders in media and academia in this country cheer led the maintenance of the Seanad as a talking shop for their insider cronies.

The insiders in London in colonial days scoffed at the lower orders and the Paddies like the people in Skibereen when they were dying of hunger in the famine and when they had the temerity to participate in the democratic discourse.
