Is it transphobic to refuse to date a trans woman?

I don't watch Celebrity Big Brother but I noticed a BBC article about an issue that has been raised due to an incident on the programme.

The contestants were discussing dating and a contestant who describes herself as a trans woman asked about dating preferences.

A singer replied that while he would date "regular women" (my description) but would not date trans women.

Some quotes:

India Willoughby: Is it discriminatory to refuse to date a trans woman? - BBC News

"Willoughby asked her housemates about their dating preferences, and the resulting conversation kicked off a social media storm.
"Would you go out with a transsexual woman?" she queried.
"I believe it's your choice... I would choose not to," replied the R'n'B singer Ginuwine. "That doesn't make me scared."
"You would go out with a woman?" Willoughby asked.
"Yes."
"But you wouldn't go out with a transsexual woman?"
"No." "

I think that's a perfectly fair position. What do you think?

Later in the BBC article there is a quote from a doctor who "specialises in sexual orientation and gender identity at King's College London" saying that she believes the singers comments to be transphobic:

"If you have a trans woman who transitions very early on, she may be physically identical to a cis woman at a surface level. There are hormonal sweet spots where trans women can transition and be effectively indistinguishable at a certain level from cisgender women".

But isn't that the whole point - trans women ARE only physically female at a surface level. Even the vagina isn't a real one, and there is a lack of internal female attributes.

So why wouldn't a man have a preference for a real woman, as opposed to one who is only physically female at a surface level?

As a straight male, if there's a penis involved (other than my own), you can count me out.

What if the trans women is post-op? ie they have turned their penis into a pretend vagina?

Are you still not playing?

What ever happened to person choice? This is nothing phobic at all. Sexuality is something that is not black and white (that is not a racist comment). I personally would not date a trans person and I am gay... does that make me transphobic?

Of course not.

The idea of having sex with somebody that has an inverted male foreskin for a vagina would make most men barf.

at least the guy wasn't made to apologise , even virtue signallers know there is a line in the sand. Also by todays silly definitions she sexually assaulted him , she grabbed him as if making a pass at him and he rightfully recoiled, pure cringe

If the reason you don't want to date someone is because they are trans, then yes that's a transphobic view.

If it's any consolation, they probably don't want to date you either.

According to the doctor in that article you are transphobic.

I don't understand what the basis of the argument is.

I agree with you that this is all about personal choice. Nobody has to include every variety of the other sort of person in the population that they would potentially date. It's now getting close to the point where people can't choose for themselves and so-called experts will be telling us all whom we should date.

I don't want to date men. Does that make me homophobic in the true sense of the word?

I was going to mention that.

Wasn't that one of those "unwanted sexual advances"?

Perhaps the trans person has a sense of entitlement due to their declaration of being trans. They think they can get away with stuff that others can't get away with because the trans label gives them a free pass to do so.

True enough.

That doesn't make such men transphobic - they just aren't interested in people who declare themselves to be women but can never be fully female physically.

Classic Merc.

So if a hetero man doesn't want to get jiggy with a gay man, is he homophobic?

A more interesting question would be if you would stop dating women if you found out they had Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. They are born with female genitalia and develop breasts and a female body but have male XY chromosomes and testies in the inside.
