Lenihan starting to face reality

Yesterday evening, after discussions with the IMF and European officials began, the Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan, said it was clear Ireland would need some sort of external assistance to address the problems in the banking sector.

After days of Government denials that anything was happening, cold reality dawned yesterday, as officials from the IMF, the European Commission and the European Central Bank began talks with Irish counterparts on a financial assistance package.

That cold reality was given extra force by Central Bank Governor Patrick Honahan, who made it clear he expected those talks to result in a multi-billion euro fund to support Ireland.

They thought they could postpone the evil day till after the GE.

Now they have to face the music, but..........

Might the spin of "its a loan for the banks" work?
Enought to keep the lid on the corruption etc?
Keeping everything from public view?

Do a deal w/the IMF/ECB on the lines of " we will go along with your saving the Euro schtick if you bury the political bodies"

Could FF pull it off?

It is a tacid admission by Lenny that the approach up to now has failed and the IMF will be given carte blanche permission to carry out their slash and burn policies. All the spin in the world will not extract us from the mess that him and his cronies have got us into.

Zanu FF attempts to delay the IMF until after the next election look to be failing.
