Just as an example I've linked a few recent IT "articles" about Trump and how he's sooooo terrible.

https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/kathy-sheridan-trump-is-the-biggest-snowflake-of-them-all-1.3180544

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/economy/second-half-of-trump-s-first-year-likely-to-be-as-eventful-as-first-1.3180350

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/personal-finance/stocktake-deluded-trump-takes-credit-for-stock-gains-1.3177170

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/us/trump-the-us-view-it-s-unfortunate-that-we-have-a-leader-who-is-really-uneducated-1.3178434

This kind of pointless tat is repeated across the Independent, RTE, DRN (Dinny's Radio Networks), etc.

Meanwhile our own politicians are still blundering from chaos to chaos without anywhere near the same scrutiny as the media's Public Enemy #1.

Our health system has 600k people waiting for an intervention, people on AIW can't afford homes, the justice system is a farce and next year, once the teachers are back from holidays, they plan to take action around pay and parity. Basically nearly every function of the state is in tatters, but...look over there, Trump said something stupid!!!!!

There was a panel on Newstalk recently saying that American supporters of Donal Trump were uneducated and living in a echo chamber, take about pot calling the kettle black :)

This country needs to get its own houses in order, instead of worrying about Donald Trump.

And America is not in tatters?

Charming starter home, close to all amenities. Ideal for a couple willing to invest time in some minor refurbishments.

Two houses doesn't make the US in tatters

Anyway, obviously you're big into the "look over there" approach to addressing Irish problems.
I don't see how blaming Trump critics is the cause of all our problems over here. You seem more intent on defending Trump than anything else.

The entitlement of the Establishment, Pravda, the presence of a media monopoly oligarch, are all greater dangers to us than criticism of Trump.

Nice of Noosetalk to focus on politicians and tycoons in other countries.

Meanwhile....back at the ranch.....

Somebody had to shut up for being too funny.....time to bring in laws on hate speech to stop Waterford Whispers....with John Gilligan havi g to endure being mixed up with you know who.

When is the Flotation coming ?

The Russians hacked the Didntsell flotation. No need for proof. Suspicion is enough.

Exactly my point, though, I'd say 50%+ of our "journalist's" time and effort goes into trying to drag Trump down, not into an objective examination of our own challenges. Our politicians get a very easy ride, so the value of the "Forth Estate" is too diluted to be effective here.

Excellent Thread. I would start by looking at the media, over the years it has moved from --an all sorts of news - outlet to a news and propaganda -- outlet. The problem with that is their business model eventually fails and it needs the support of the State ot big business to survive. Last week RTE Radio ran a morning Programme all about Trumps impending impeachment, Russian interference and all that. It never mentioned that West Virginia Governor Big Jim Justice had crossed from the Democrats to Republicans.

That's proves RTE is simply into Propaganda. I would have thought that with the threat of severe competition from the internet, they would ease off and try and compete. But no, its plough on. Ask your local News agent about paper sales. They are selling more A3 printing paper than news print in some cases.

Papers have to be very careful about giving opinion, it can be done, but it can destroy a paper if they get it wrong

For example, I would have thought that the media and left politicians would have tackled Trump on his plans for coal and the basis that it would destroy the planet when the correct way is to go for wind and solar panels. But not a word out of them. I guess they fear they will be questioned by other media abd they don't feel competent to discuss it. In other words they were making assumptions whcih they guessed.

There are so many indisputable facts - Dinny bribed Lowry, John Tierney has a track record of wasting tax payers money, 675k people are waiting fro treatment, tax policies have made land more expensive, etc., etc., that papers, or RTE or Newstalk could discuss clear and proven facts that highlight the governments abject failure 24 hours a day and hold them accountable without ever straying into "opinion" territory.
