He's trying to jail 2 Bloomberg reporters and 36 others for an article about the decline of the value of the Turkish Lira and social media posts about it. Sentence can be up to 5 years.

I'd have thought that Ayesha or Farah character would be all over this. Probably in jail for not touting for El Presidente enough, or missed this month's quota.

Some good news for once from this unfortunate country:-
Right slap in the gob for Erdogan. His attempt to annul the election backfired spectacularly. Imamoglu's lead has leaped from the 13 000 of the first election to over 700 000 now. :giggle:

Oddly enough this result has some personal resonance for me. I actually happened to be in Istanbul on holiday in 1994 when Erdogan won his first local election there. I remember walking through the university and watching lorryloads of his mirthless supporters (they were called the Refah Party then) waving banners and green flags there on the Monday as the results were declared - all the lorries segregated of course and women wrapped from head to toe. It was a portent of things to come, despite all the denial from both the Islamists themelves and many naive liberals that this really was a fundamentalist reaction.

Istanbul was already turning quite Islamist back then - it is encouraging to think that the tide may be turning.

They've just charged the head of the Istanbul branch of the secularist CHP party for 'insulting the president'. The CHP are the party that won the mayoral election.

....
Canan Kaftancioglu is standing trial over a number of tweets, reportedly dating back up to six years ago.

She is accused of "insulting" President Erdogan and the Turkish state in the posts, as well as allegedly "spreading terror propaganda".

Reports say the alleged comments relate to 2013 anti-government protests and the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK).

Despite the secularist mayor winning in Istanbul, Erdogans governor there has banned LGBT march there again. Marches also banned in Ankara and Izmir.

Today the Turkish deputy consul-general and also two consul staff were shot dead at point blank range inside a restaurant in Erbil, the capital of Kurdish autonomous region in Iraq.

In recent weeks, Turkey has been carrying out cross-border operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the Hakurk region of northern Iraq.

The PKK has been fighting against the Turkish state in predominantly Kurdish southeastern Turkey since the 1980s and more than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

Remember the suspicious murder of the Russian ambassador in Turkey a few years ago? Remember the suspicious coup attempt, which many believe was an inside job to justify a crackdown on the Turkish opposition?

Erdogan may be looking for another distraction, fresh after heavy losses in local elections particularly Istanbul.

This is not a good action. We all will suffer the same at the end of the day but wrongdoers will suffer more. If we are going to assassinate people having lunch in restaurants you cant take even a single step in streets. Dont play with us.

Western block and their lapdop terror organizations are getting mad when they cant militarily respond Turkiye's actions. This is why they choose vile actions such as murdering consular employees having lunch or kidnapping Turkish workers in Libya and Nigeria. We wont respond these vile actions in the same manner, because you are terrorists, we are not.

Strange. I don't recall arranging any shootings of Turkish consular officials recently... does anyone else?

Notes about the assassin of Turkish diplomat;

- One of the shooters is a female who has close ties with Assad regime.

- The first terrorist who shot the diplomat is caught near an US businessman working in Iraq.

- The diplomat goes to two different blind spots before the asssassin that assassin would be done much more easily but terrorists deliberately attack him in the restaurant.

- The restaurant is located in the most secure area of Northern Iraq, which is near to Barzani residence, N.Iraq parliament and other high rank residences.

- Totally 700 persons are taken into custody that may be related to the assassin. 636 of them released while 64 of them still in custody.

- Barzani family is shocked by the assassin which is done by US and aims to give message to Turkiye and Barzani family.
