Have any of you been following the attempted take over of Tower Hamlets council in London by Islamic supremacists? An entryist plot that nearly suceeded in replacing local Labour with Islamic fundamentalists allied to the IFE was foiled late in the game but has not deterred the group behind it.

They've managed to get the system changed to a mayorlty and are now within grasp of having the mayorship. Some will see this as merely democracy in action. Others (including me) will be less sanguine. This is a man with close links to Islamic fundamentalism and the backing of prominent racists who this week could elected with almost total control over its £1 billion budget.

Multiculturalism can be seen to be doing two things in Europe these days. Unraveling in the eyes of the greater public as the mad and perverse ideology that it is, and bearing the first crop of many harvests to come. There is hope at least in so far as it is now permitted, even in polite company, to voice opposition to the whole idea. Europe needs to correct the balance here before the far right seize upon this issue as it appears both Merkel and Sarkozy have recognized.

Merkel and Sarkozy have no intention of correcting "the balance". Anything they or the British government do will be cosmetic or a reduction in freedoms to accomodate the muslims. Whats your idea of the far-right 'seizing' on this issue anyways?

Yes, I saw it and it was very interesting for a number of reasons. What was very interesting was the degree to which New Labour and the likes of Ken Livingston turned a blind eye to the progress of Islamists in return for support. The IFE is only a foreign backed and funded Islamist lobby group, and as such does not seem to enjoy the support of many local Muslim community groups. Instead they seem adept at infiltration of local government and making themselves as a political force, a mixture of lobby group and insider dealers.

Tower Hamlets has also been the focus of widespread alleged postal vote fraud, investigation into which the IFE and its allies in local government are in a strong position to stimy any investigation into. Thus Tower Hamlets has become a 'rotten borough', along much the same lines as those sort seen in the suburbs of places like Islamabad.

Tower Hamlets is having an election for Mayor. The winner will be decided by the voters of Tower Hamlets. What a strange way to have a putsch.

Jesus, and I thought Irish elections were rough. The telling of so many unbelieveable lies about an opponent to me seems to be a sign of desperation. What an example of multiculturalism in action. Their is a bit of devilment in me that would not mind seeing this guy winning the election as they would surely screw up the whole place, money would go missing, and will be discredited thereafter.
According to the Wiki over 50% of the population are White with less than 35% South Asian. So unless the White population decide to missing for the day how can this guy win?

Did you read the piece? Fraud was used to gather signatures to have a referendum and further fraud was perceived during the referendum campaign. Furthermore there is a hate campaign against the Labour candidate Mr. Abbas.

I learned this morning that the grubby religious supremacist Rahman won leading Labour to declare that the hamet's have become London's first 'Islamic republic'. IMO This episode reveals a number of things.

1) The IFE is very serious about gaining political power
2) When they said they would use our own democratic institutions against us; they meant it. Their political strategy can be condensed thus; One Man. One Vote. Once.
3) The left still does not get it

Labour have expelled a few councillors over this and other activists as well.
Thre is a minefield relating to asian politics which all of the three parties in the british system have been affected by.
indeed there is a suspicion that a high rpofile lib dem may hav campaigned for rahman, as he didnt get the nomination himself

Dear Lord, anyone who could do anything to improve Tower Hamlets deserves a medal. What would be so bad about having a very strict law abiding religious crowd running the place. Its like living in hell for most as it is.

Islamist Lufur Raman, elected as Tower Hamlets mayor has been accused of impropriety in last months election which saw him defeat the Labuor candidate by a narrow margin. In a high court action he or his supporters have been accused of postal voting for people ineligible to vote, canvassing inside of polling stations and of accompanying people to voting booths.

If the high court action is successful the election will be rerun and Raman will possibly be banned from holding office.

Britain’s first directly elected Muslim mayor has been accused in the High Court of involvement in electoral fraud and illegally smearing an opponent.
Groups of people were paid to gather outside polling stations and persuade voters to back Lutfur Rahman on election day last month in Tower Hamlets, east London, an election petition claims.

Details were yesterday submitted to the High Court in advance of the High Court case which will determine if the election of the Islamist Mayor of Tower Hamlets was the result of widespread electoral fraud,

Campaigners for Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman threatened council staff and bribed religious groups to secure votes in knife-edge elections, an explosive High Court dossier claims.

The controversial mayor oversaw a “systematic campaign of intimidation” including widespread postal vote fraud in order to triumph in May’s election, documents seen by the Standard claim.

He, or those acting on his behalf, allegedly told activists for his party, Tower Hamlets First, to collect and fill out 250 postal vote application forms each at a meeting held in a Bangladeshi restaurant ahead of May’s election, which he won by 3000 votes.

The dossier claims Mr Rahman authorised bribery of religious groups in exchange for leaders promising him votes at the election.

It alleges that Tower Hamlets staff were threatened at a meeting to support Mr Rahman’s re-election that they “may lose their jobs at the council” if they did not obtain 100 votes each for him. It was made clear that these votes should be obtained illegally, “including through postal vote fraud”, the documents claim.
