Israel is bordered by the Golan Heights of Syria

Syria is presently an abominable mess, including the fundamentalist Islamic Revolutionary Guards corps (IRGC) , also Hezbollah is a proxy of Iran

Iran mostly denies significant presence in Syria, Israel has struck Iranian assets and increasingly the IRGC, but mostly without commenting

There have been numerous aerial encounters between Iran and Israel in Syria, as such right now the ball seems to be in Iran's court on reply
Guardian - The Syrian airbase at the heart of a potential Israel-Iran war
“The chances of an escalation into a full-scale military conflict in Syria are higher than ever before,” Israel’s former military intelligence chief, Amos Yadlin, told the Guardian. “No doubt Iran is planning about the need, from their side, to respond. We’ll have to wait.”
NYT Feb 2018 - The Middle East’s Coming War

During the night, according to my high-ranking sources, Israel’s intelligence services had been tracking an Iranian drone that was launched by the Quds division of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from the Tiyas air base in central Syria.

A minute and a half after the drone entered Israeli airspace, an Israeli Air Force attack helicopter shot it out of the sky. Simultaneously, eight Israeli fighter jets fired missiles at the drone’s command and control center at Tiyas, blowing it up, along with the Iranians manning the center.
. ..
The Israeli bombardments of the air base had been dangerously close to Russian forces. A furious phone call on Saturday morning from President Vladimir Putin of Russia was enough to make Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel cancel the plans.
It is hard to see Iran abandoning its hard won presence in Syria ...and they can no longer maintain the pretense that Israel is not conducting air strikes against them

At present, this seems likely to escalate

As long as it stays as a proxy war. And since that Feb article the Israelis have dropped a bunker buster in Syria which registered 2.7 on the Richter scale and RasPutin has been quiet so far. He'll not want to test his aircraft against F-16s and F-35s.

They'll chose Hezbollah. Things a bit tense on the Lebanon border I hear.

Well how is Iran going to retaliate? They dont have the capability to attack Israeli air defences. Trump would tear up the Nuclear Deal, so they couldnt sell their crude on the world market, and they are already suffering the economic effects of a currency crisis.

They could set off bombs in Israeli markets using fifth columnists, but BiBi would just hit back harder.

Hezbollah lost a lot of soldiers in the Syrian civil war.

A nasty outfit. However, not as nasty as Al CIAda, Al Nusra, ISIS, or the Fraud Syrian Army (who in many cases are not Syrian, and who are generally detested by the Syrian population).

Israel seems to be preparing for war with Iran, U.S. officials say
"On the list of the potentials for most likely live hostility around the world, the battle between Israel and Iran in Syria is at the top of the list right now," said one senior U.S. official.
...
While Russia runs the air war for the Assad regime in Syria, Iran is now running the ground war, the officials said, with Iranian military present at every major Russian and Syrian regime base in the country.
...
Before last week's meeting between Mattis and Lieberman at the Pentagon, Mattis was asked by reporters whether weapons being shipped from Iran to Syria would be used against Israel.

Mattis responded, "I can't think of any other purpose for them right now."
Iran is in Syria under the IRGC banner , and denies the scale of thrir presence...it is hard to see how/when Iran could put its head up and admit to Syrian base(s)...yet they are increasing arms shipments...

Via Lebanon. I said earlier that the border is tense.

Hezbollah with their missiles pointed at Israel.......

The British Israelis are "Gods chosen people" and they can do no wrong. They are always the victims. Israel has nuclear weapons, and is backed by the US military. In 1973, when Israel was at war with Egypt- the US put their forces on full nuclear alert. And launched a massive resupply of arms.

I hope that peace talks can start. And I think that France in particular should be talking to both sides. This hope fully will not escalate. When will the fanatical Israeli settlers stop their settlements on Christian land?

He knows the Israelis would thrash his force out the gate as they will if Iran gets ideas.

I am probably going to regret asking this but........British Israelis?

Like it or not but Israel is part of the network of stability that keeps you in a job, and cars running.

The one thing we have learned is that the middle east is a basket case of instability.

I appreciate the Israeli state is a negative influence and so is the Western influence but that shouldn't blind me to seeing the problems of the middle east which arise from the middle east.

How we square that with the fact that we live in a society depending in the current middle East order is challenging. A lot more challenging and can't be written off easily.

I'd guess the unionists. Half of them believe they are a tribe of Israel.

They have the neo fascist Hamas as a proxy for that.

The Israelis are only spoiling for a fight against the Palestinian people and if the fash give them cause then they won't be waiting.

The Palestinian people will be the ones suffering.

However, the table of options iran has to respond is informative. They can respond from Lebanon, Syria, in Iraq against Americans should that be required and around the world at Israeli interests.

It's not a two bit misogynistic and homophobic state. It's a well capable misogynistic and homophobic state and more than a challenge for that country which believes good gave them their land and that women should shave their heads and wear wigs.
