Israel's ambassador to the UK Mark Regev has apologised after an Israel lobby plot to 'take down' the Pro-Palestinian Deputy Foreign Secretary Sir Alan Duncan was uncovered:

Israel's ambassador sorry over 'take down' Sir Alan Duncan comment

Israel plot to 'take down' Tory minister: Astonishing undercover video captures diplomat conspiring with rival MP's aide to smear Deputy Foreign Secretary

Senior Tory MPs have condemned the apparent threat to ‘take down’ Sir Alan – who has been critical of Israel and who is described in the secret footage as causing ‘problems’ – and called for a Downing Street inquiry.
Former Tory Minister Sir Desmond Swayne condemned Mr Masot’s ‘disgraceful’ comments, adding: ‘To talk of “taking down” a British Minister is very sinister.
‘There is anger in the US at Russia’s meddling in its democratic process and no such foreign meddling should be allowed in the UK.’
He was backed by Crispin Blunt, Conservative chairman of the Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee, who is also targeted by Masot in the film. He called the alleged comments about Sir Alan ‘outrageous’.

Will the British PM now expel Israeli diplomats and place sanctions against Israel for attempting to interfere in Britain's democracy, as Obama has against Russia?

(Perhaps a mod can kindly correct my incorrect spelling of ambassador in the thread heading?)

George Galloway says:

This is the most important story you will read today or most days.

Congratulations to Al Jazeera for their earthshaking revelations on the operation to "bring down" an FCO minister and a £1m Labour slush-fund will have momentous consequences for British politics. The Israeli Ambassador must be expelled. Joan Ryan MP's position in Labour is untenable

Corbyn must order an inquiry into the so-called "Labour Friends of Israel" and their £1,000,000 slush fund at the Israeli embassy.

We must know who else has been targeted to be "brought down" by the organised conspiracy that is the Israël lobby in Britain?

The PM now has clear evidence that a foreign govt in league with their agents in parliament are a conspiracy against her government and UK.

Boris Johnson has no choice other than to immediately summon the Israeli ambassador and demand his removal from the country without delay.

These things go on all the time.

And everyone does it; not just nations, but commercial companies, LGBT lobbies et al.

More here:

REVEALED: Secret tapes expose Israeli influence over UK Conservative Party

A senior political officer at the Israeli Embassy in London has been secretly filmed talking about how he would like to "take down" UK foreign office minister Alan Duncan, a vocal opponent of illegal Israeli settlement building in the West Bank.

He said Duncan, who is one of the few Conservative ministers to speak out over settlements, was causing "a lot of problems". He also called Boris Johnson, the foreign secretary, "an idiot".

In a separate conversation with the embassy staffer, Crispin Blunt, the chairman of the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, was described as being "on the hit list" for his views which were "strongly pro-Arab rather than pro-Israel".

The revelations provoked an immediate political reaction, with Desmond Swayne, a former Conservative minister and parliamentary aide to former prime minister David Cameron, calling for the incident to be "investigated thoroughly".

"What we cannot have is Israel acting in the UK with the same impunity it enjoys in Palestine," he told Middle East Eye. "This is clearly interference in another country's politics of the murkiest and most discreditable kind."

Its a good thing to hear that the head of the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee is considered not to be an unconditional supporter of all Israels works and deeds. Under May the leadership is becoming too pro-Israel for comfort, which plans for anti BDS laws being a particular concern.

Aye which is obviously why he was targeted. They want the same setup as the States: two main parties both of which are 100% pro-Israel.

I hope Jeremy Corbyn seizes the opportunity to expose this nefarious Israel lobby for what it is.

But please let's not get too bothered about happenings in another country.
Instead, let's bother more about what goes on here.
In 2010, Israeli agents forged EIGHT Irish passports for use by a mossad squad sent to Dubai to assassinate an opponent.
Micheal Martin's get tough response was to kick an unnamed 'diplomat' out of Israel's embassy here in Ireland. The 'diplomat' might have been the teamaker or the photocopy boy, we simply don't know because MM did not name the individual. Instead he apologised profusely for his get tough actions:
"The misuse of Irish passports by a state with which Ireland enjoys friendly, if sometimes frank, bilateral relations, is clearly unacceptable and requires a firm response," Martin said. He stressed that the unnamed Israeli diplomat was not accused or suspected of any particular wrongdoing. "In being obliged to leave their post prematurely, the official concerned is a victim of the actions of the state they represent." (Guardian newspaper)
But one thing we can be sure of, the unnamed diplomat was definitely not the ambassador, who must still be laughing into his soup.

Just watch the generalised outrage, vehemence and expressions of damnation erupt all over the world. The righteous wrath.

Then ask yourself if say an Irish ambassador had ever been caught saying a similar thing, for a similar purpose, wrt a strongly anti-Irish MP, say the likes of Lord Acton or Lord Salisbury in the nineteenth century - what would have been the reaction to it?

Without a doubt this is not a rare type of conversation in private. But because it seems to corroborate a certain powerful anti-Jewish trope, just watch what will happen with it. Watch the vultures swoop and swoop and observe their numbers. Then wonder is that all of them, or are there others still circling, waiting?

Not comparable. In the 19th century we were part of the British empire.

Its unacceptable for politicians to be offered million pound trips by representatives of a foreign govt to curry favour, as this video reveals is happening.

Daily Mail said:
Further footage shows the Israeli diplomat, intelligence expert Shai Masot, telling senior Labour MP Joan Ryan that he has obtained ‘more than £1 million’ to pay for sympathetic Labour MPs to visit Israel.

Most ironic of all that a country that often accuses its critics of peddling anti semitic stereotypes seems to be acting in such a way as to almost confirm those stereotypes. Personally I think the stereotypes are true about the Israeli elite rather than Jews.

Put it this way @Dame edna - if you were a gay rights ambassador or activist, and there was another person in a position of power agitating abominably against the interests of those whose security and right to self determination depended on your political success - would you ever conceive of having a conversation in private like that of the Israeli ambssador?

No. Blatant double standards apply. Israel has impunity

In terms of "double standards", let's just set out what you think the world should see as equivalent:

A. A despot president with imperialist ambitions, Vladimir Putin, actually ordering the computer hacking of the Democratic National Committee to help Donald Trump win the 2016 US election to further those ambitions.

b. A lowly ambassador, covertly recorded, trying to protect the interests of his country wrt life threatening exigencies, touching on surreptitious political strategy in a private conversation.
