A Leading spokesperson for the loyalist flags protests, Jamie Bryson has claimed on the "Proud to be a Protestant" Facebook page that amongst others he has contacted the Israeli Embassy who have Promised support .while the links between Fundamental Christians and Zionism in both America and Ireland are long established it looks like the Israeli Government are been asked to return some of that unwavering support the recieved from there Loyalist supporters.

It has come to the attention of the UPF that the PSNI intend to invoke special legislation and arrest those organising or involved in protests. Tonight a PSNI snatch squad were primed to arrest two high profile loyalists in Belfast and were ordered to stand down because they could not get both people. Human rights independent international observers have been notified as well as media contacts across the world and if PSNI arrest peaceful protestors or arrest peaceful protest organisers without evidence of them breaking the law there is many human rights lawyers and MEP's from across Europe who have agreed to raise the issue on the world stage. The Israeli embassy has also been contacted and informed that political arrests are going to be made and they have promised support. All have also been made aware that the PSNI may try and set up certain loyalists for arrest to take them off the streets and thus they believe this will squash the protests. I warn them that they are playing with fire if they start arresting people for expressing their democratic right to peaceful protest.

It is well known that Loyalists support Israel. Alan Shatter must be questioned in relation to this discussion IMO.

Back in the day the Catholics obsession with comparing themselves with Palestinians and South African blacks meant that Protestants readily identified with the Israelis and Afrikaans and the republican comparisons became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Sectarianism and gerrymandering and the B-Specials were bad enough but a Palestinian or Black South Africa would have readily swapped places with a Belfast or Derry Catholic.

The Palestinians and the ANC and the likes of Revolutionary Cells, Red Army Faction, the Red Brigades, Carlos the Jackal and Gaddaffi readily adopted the PIRA as ideological brothers in the struggle against imperialism and PIRA members ended up in the same training camps in the Libyan desert and the valleys of Lebanon as their revolutionary brothers.

At the same time Israeli settlers and Afrikaaners eager for someone who supported them supplied arms to UDA and UVF. The Israelis and Afrikaaner really were in great danger of being massacred by vengeful Palestinians and blacks but the Catholics had no desire to butcher and massacre all the Protestants.

In this way a barely noticed poisonous feud between sectarian lunatics in grotty ghettos and monotonous housing estates in a forgotten corner of the UK was elevated into a conflict with international reach.

What might have been solved by a British government with real back bone if they had stood up to the unionists was instead seen as an existential threat from dangerous radical republicans. If the Falls Road curfew had not been so utterly heavy handed it is possible nationalists and republicans would not have turned on the British Army overnight. Within a few years the same nice mammys giving them tea, the same nice girls who were flirting with handsome young solders and the same kids who wanted sweets and to play with their guns were in revolt. Teenage kids throwing stones and petrol bombs became sophisticated urban guerrillas and career terrorists in their twenties and a weak militarily ineffective IRA in the late 1960s suddenly became the ruthless PIRA of the 1970s and 1980s.

Open a book and read it before writing this kind of disgraceful nonsense

The situation in Northern Ireland in the 1960s was bad for Catholics but compared to the plight of Palestinians and the South African blacks they had it good. The Civil Rights movement was utterly justified but the Unionist overreaction hardly justified the orgy of bombing and shooting that the PIRA indulged. The extreme violence of the KKK and other racists in America did not result in an explosion in black violence. The cool heads prevailed. The Black Panthers nor the Weathermen nor the Symbionese Liberation Army never had significant support. What happened in Ireland was a failure of leadership in nationalism and a distinct lack of even headed cool headed leadership. Instead you had nihilists determined to descend into the abyss.

He is given oxygen by the failure by both nationalists and unionists to seriously tackle sectarianism.

Politics in Northern Ireland is still frozen by sectarian malice on both sides.

The working classes in both loyalist and nationalist communities both face unemployment, family breakdown, the alienation of youth, crime, drug use, alcoholism, domestic violence, truancy, teenage pregnancy, educational disadvantage, low incomes, suicide, depression and so on.

Energies that could be directed toward positive goals are instead being directed toward maintaining a claustrophobic culture of ignorance, fear, hatred and sectarianism which is the power base of loyalist and nationalist extremes.

Both sides are only at peace because decades of violence exhausted a generation of angry young men and women who were thrown at each other.

Sadly the much trumpeted lasting peace is increasingly fraying as the underlying causes of sectarian warfare are not addressed and ready to burst as an impatient new angry young generation as emerged who only know about the truly bad days of the Troubles from the tales their elders tell them.

Northern Ireland is in serious danger of showing the world it has learned nothing.

The likes of Jamie Bryson and other agitators are filling a vacuum vacated by a political establishment who refuse to look and do not want to know.

You didn't say the 1960's. You didn't mention a time period. After partition 100's of Catholics were murdered.
