Many new employees are impressed by amenities in MNCs, including access to top-notch technology, dorm-like housing, gyms / recreation activities, parties, and so forth. What they do not realise is that they have made a pact with duplicitous and manipulative folk who will ultimately screw them for every drop of their effort, their spirit and their humanity. In such MNC's everything is secondary to the gran projet: family, hobbies, and so forth right up to and including the very energy of life itself.

On the other hand, when I heard that Irish Water was providing free "laughing yoga" for its workforce it raised a rueful smile, on the basis that none of these folks [IW management] owe their soul to the company store and the IW management isn't capable of the messianic commitment of the likes of a Google or Microsoft.

Should people have access to the soft HR fuzzies if they aren't prepared to die in harness?

The PS love all the perks of the private sector except the ones about being accountable or losing your job. No those are just too 'yellow pack race to the bottom' for the PS.

If, as I firmly believe was the intent, the Irish Water Supply Industry was handed over to Denis O' Brien, would the staff have got these fuzzy perks? No free Health care for the missus in Digicell, afaia.
