DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson has repaid £660 to House of Commons authorities for 68 pay per view he watched during 2004 - 2005. In a less than convincing performance on BBC News he could only name two of the movies he watched a "Star Wars movie" and "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Bit of a Sammy Wilson on the beach moment for Jeffrey but hopefully the furore will pass and he can resume his march towards the DUP leadership.

Nice to see a news story about 'whacko' that doesn't involve Michael Jackson.

Good thing this will never happen in Ireland, because of the trust we place in our elected officials honesty with expenses.

Imagine the PPV movies O'Dea, Harney, Coughlan and Cowen would be watching..

What the hell is wrong with claiming for watching a pay movie when you are away on business?

This kind of silliness takes away from the real abuses which UK (and Irish) politicians have been getting up to for years.

Yes, doctors (on innumerable drug company junkets) have been indulging in this kind of behaviour for years: what could possibly be wrong with it?

It's a waste of taxpayer's money.

Being sent away on business is a significant interruption to ones normal family life; while you cant expect the Ritz, you should be made quite comfortable and at least as comfortale surroundings as you would have at home. That should certainly include the odd pay movie. Im sure Jeff has Sky Movies and/or a DVD at home.

It makes you go blind.

yeh but it also may render the politician more relaxed. You don't want the likes of Willie O'Dea and Batt O'Keefe to be too stressed out when abroad representing the people so a bit of "relaxation" in front of the "box" may be in order

What's the coat hanger for?

Oh that's for gouging the above image out of your mind's eye

He is not on business. He is doing his job.

In Ireland, for example, if Willie O'Dea chooses not to have his State car take him home and stays in a nice hotel in Dublin that is his choice. I do not want to pay for him to watch porn or premium films.

If only he had spent another £6.00, would have been priceless.

"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe".
This is actually a skillfull metaphor; 'the lion' is the DUP party which has a lion as its emblem, 'the witch' is Iris Robinson and 'the wardrobe' is actually a closet that they guard to prevent unauthorised exits.

Exactly. Most companies I have worked for would consider that a legitimate expense.

Doesn't he get an overnight subsistence allowance for that sort of thing?

If he does, thats fine, if the subsistence allowance is for that purpose.
Our company is quite clear : subsistence allowance is not for smutty movies

Mr Donaldson also said he regretted innuendo in some media that the films could have been pornographic in nature.
"I have been very clear about the nature of those films and what I was watching," he said.
"I did not at any time watch a film that was adult in nature.
If he's found out to be a smuttyphile he is in trouble
