I'm not positive if this is the right forum, but anyway;

The below link is a popular article on the JP website on the implications for Israel on Ireland takling the EU presidency.

Eamon Gilmore gets namechecked quite a bit.

On a lighter note, take some time to read the readers comments below the article. We're one and the same as the Nazi's, it appears. Israel is also disturbingly familiar with Limerick, too.

Meriwether's commentary on this [in the style of factual, moderator compliant technique]: Its interesting to nore that Israel is paying more and more attention to the opinions the international community is holding on its domestic policies. Following on from UNESCO/Observor status and the new settlement push, hopefully Netanyhu may attribute some value to the necessity of having a respected standing internationally.

Analysis: Ireland

The below-the-line comments are much like what you'd read on P.ie. On a good day.

The comment section on Jpost is roughly akin to the Israel threads on p.ie.

Oh look. ANOTHER thread about Israel.

You know it's going to end up that way.

If they want comparisons with Nazi policy don’t look any further than the Anschluss of the settlements on Palestinian land.

semsem5 says

'Ireland is financially and morally bankrupt'

that cannot be denied. Otherwise is seems the Israelis have issues. I remember when they used to send their soldiers here to learn Gaeilge so that they could understand what our soldiers were saying over the radio.

If the thread doesn't interest you, fukk off out of it. Going on precedence, you have nothing valuable to offer in any event.

The subject matter is an opinion piece on Ireland by Israel's largest newspaper (according to itself anyway).

As such, its a perfectly valid piece to discuss on this site.

Are we becomming overly obsessed with what other people think about us ?

And with respect to Gimmemore, they might wish to do some background analysis as to his actual "popularity" amongst the poor unfortunate mugs who pay for all his posturing on the world stage....

Its not the most popular newspaper in Israel. Its the most popular English-language newspaper, to be precise.

Gilmore is one of those Labour people with a Worker's Party background, who tend to be more hostile to Israel. Certainly somebody you have to keep an eye on.

Why should we give an arse about what Israel thinks of us as rotating President of the EU?

Israel isn't even in the EU. Unless they are operating under a grave misapprehension due to their inclusion in the 'Eurovision' song contest...

Gilmore was very weak on the settlements jnust calling for an EU response rather than comdemning it as Ireland- the two are not mutually exclusive

I wouldn't worry too much about Israel's constant squeals. They've been at this caper for so long there can hardly be a diplomat or a nation however small unaware of its intent or customary hiding behind a self-described martyrdom of anti-semitism.

Israel proclaims itself satisfied on the international field of diplomacy only with obsequiousness and is positively vatican in its attempt to harness 'evil' to the artillery carriage of global public opinion.

Meanwhile it eyes up more landstealing on the West Bank under cover of its tired looking manservant, Washington.

There's nothing in the article.

Just another "Ireland is the baddie" from the Jerusalem Post as the Israelis build illegal settlements whilst robbing Palestinian land.

The supporters of Israel on here would obviously have no problem with a bunch of travellers pitching up a tent in their front garden.

I'm always amazed at the amount of anti-Israel posters on here who themselves bring in the term antisemitism to threads and then complain that the term is over-used.

No, we're not. And that's pretty mild compared to the "Israeli Jews are the most racist people in the world" sort of comment you get here. A lot of people posting on the internet are loopers and the anonymity gives them a heightened sense of loopiness.

We also need to be at ease with the fact that not everyone in the world loves us. It's no big deal. Ignore it.

I doubt Israel have much to worry about tbh...

Our lot will be too busy 'bigging up' the importance of the EU Presidency despite the opposite being the case and kissing EU arse while also trying to keep us plebs at bay with bullsh!t claims about a 'debt deal' being due imminently...

Plus we've got an abortion fiasco to indulge in as a country too...

And let's not forget the gay marriage / civil partnership stuff which Gilmore seems very keen on...

And there's 'The Gathering' too... so instead of lambasting Israel we should actually be inviting them over for a bit of craic...

And if all that wasn't enough, we haven't even chosen our Eurovision song contest entry either, and that's in May... :shock2:

You should see the dead Garda bodies being dragged across the stage on any thread involving Sinn Fein. Sure there is hardly a scrap of uniform left on that ever handy corpse.

'Tis like a one man Shoah in its political usefulness to the charlatans of today.

Abso-bleeding-lutely! I'm conscious of one particularly irascible poster who is no stranger to this thread. He's been banging on for years that criticism of Israel is not anti-Semitic. Yet, when one other poster spoke of groups being anti-Israel, he loudly insisted that this really meant anti-Semitic. Oy f__king vey.
