It's been confirmed that O'Shea is retiring from international football after the friendly against the USA next month.

He's Ireland's third most capped player, after Shay Givens and Robbie Keane, with 117 caps, 111 starting, and 46 wins. And yet, he's hardly make an all-time RoI XI. Still, he's had a great career, been a fine servant to Irish soccer, and left us some fine moments, mostly for ManU, sadly.

Against Arsenal, so what's not to like?

May he have a long and happy retirement.

His goal against Germany will go down in Irish soccer folklore, great lion hearted wariour, he would never go down as one of our greatest CB, at Utd. he was used mainly as a FB, happy retirement JOS

His career petered out barely noticed but he's been a good servant to the Irish game nonetheless and i wish him a happy retirement.

Great career. Not many make it to 100+ caps in International football anymore.

Sad to see him go. It would have been nice for him to have bowed out after an Ireland run in the World Cup though.

How many times was he a sub for Man U. Definitely prolonged his career sitting on the bench collecting a nice packet.

A proper footballer and massively underrated. He played and won at the very top level, at a time when competition for places became a global game.

Of the three Kerr underage sides (u20 WC, u16 and u18 euro's) he is the last man standing, and the most decorated of them all. I'd put him behind Duffer and ahead of Robbie and Dunne as a footballer.

All round good guy.

When Fergie faced United fan disbelief for selling Jaap Stam, one of the reasons he gave was the potential O'Shea had as he was coming through the ranks. High praise indeed.

He wouldn't make an ROI or Man Utd all-time top XI but that list of honours can't be taken away from him.
