John Kelly's behaviour over the last while has been getting more and more unhinged. If he was deliberately trying to find a way out of his position but it wasn't working, then it appears that he may end up out of a job because of something unintended instead.

It appears that Kelly knew about domestic abuse allegations against former White House staff secretary Rob Porter for months, but did nothing about them until a photograph was published this week. On top of that it appears that Kelly kept Donald Trump in the dark about the whole issue. That appears to have upset Trump.

The whole issue has of course been extremely badly handled by the White House. Including an idiotic statement by Trump today.

The Trump circus continues - how long before Kelly is dismissed? Or "resigns", or "retires"?

It is also being claimed that Kelly asked senior White House staff to lie about his actions.

Kelly asks WH staff to say he took 'immediate and direct action' on Porter: report | TheHill

An extract:

"White House chief of staff John Kelly has instructed senior staff to say that he took "immediate and direct action" after learning that the allegations of domestic abuse against staff secretary Rob Porter were credible, according to The Washington Post.

Kelly reportedly told the senior staff to relay what he said on Friday to subordinate staff and that he cares about combatting domestic violence.

Aides told the Post they are concerned that Kelly's account is untrue, as it appears to contradict past statement on the matter from White House officials."

It's hard to keep up with this issue:

Kelly indicated to Trump he was willing to resign: report | TheHill

"Chief of staff John Kelly has reportedly indicated to President Trump that he is willing to resign amid the controversy surrounding his handling of the domestic abuse allegations against former White House staff secretary Rob Porter.

Individuals close to Kelly and the president told ABC News that the chief of staff has "made it clear" over the past 24 hours that he would be willing to step down.

This report comes hours after reports that Trump was considering options for replacing Kelly."

Kelly took the fall for Trump.

He stood by Porter, who was a known domestic abuser, because Trump himself is accused of assaulting dozens of women.

Any allegation of woman-beating made against anyone close to Trump, then, must be dismissed as if it were being made against Trump himself.

Kelly did his job, only to find out the rest of the world does not think like Trump and Trump will not protect him for protecting Trump.

But then why did Kelly do a 180 as soon as that photo was published?

Did he decide on his own that defending an alleged wife abuser was fine so long as only words were involved? ie the accusations by the ex-wives. But that once that photo was published that defending Porter was pointless?

As usual the White House response to this has been all over the place - some defending Porter, some condemning him, some changing their minds within hours. The cherry was put on top of the whole thing when Trump made his idiotic comments today.

Trump has to be the most tone-deaf idiot ever. If there was ever a time for him not to get involved in something this was it. But he can't help himself.

Apparently, Trump does not even read the intelligence briefs prepared by his staff. Who needs "intelligence" when you can watch Fox and Friends, while munching a cheeseburger?

Kelly is riding herd on a single moron too lazy and intellectually fatuous to be do the job he was elected to do.

Kelly has also shown his dark sides with his negative immigration stereotypes and neo-Confederate revisionist and misogynist POVs. He knew the guy was a serial wifebeater and lack proper security clearances because of it and yet kept him on the job and tried to minimise that fact once caught. That's on him.

Of course, you don't have to be Sherlock to know that Trump demands loyalty to himself but offers none in return to anyone doing so. It's always about Trump taking care of Trump.

I no fan of the Oompa Lumpa however I hope Kelly doesn't leave the administration as he is, in so far as possible, a restraining influence on POTUS.

A great post.

As we know all that Trump gets in terms of information is what he sees on TV and what he is told by the few people that Kelly allows him to see. He doesn't read anything and thus gets (or considers) no detail about any issue.

Same old crap....if he's good at his job, then who cares what he does outside of it like beat the crap out of his wives. Oh, and spousal abuse is a 'private family matter'. They haven't cared to read or follow the memos and the laws about society taking major turns on such POVs.
